'No Congress without Gandhis': Shivakumar as dissenting leaders demand leadership change

Congress' poll drubbing in the recently held assembly elections in 5 states has led to a renewed demand for a change in the party leadership.

Even as dissenting leaders of Congress, referred to as G-23, held a meeting at senior party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad's house to discuss future course of action, Karnataka unit chief DK Shivakumar backed the Gandhi family.

In an interview of NDTV, Shivakumar said that the Congress cannot stay united without the Gandhis at the top. He said that the family is key for the unity of the party, adding that it is impossible for the Congress to survive without the Gandhis.

While Congress lost Punjab to AAP, in Uttar Pradesh they managed to win just 2 seats. In Uttarakhand they won 19 out of 70 seats, in Goa they won 12 out of 40 and in Manipur they got 5 out of 60.
