Mizoram assembly election results 2023| ZPM set to form government as party crosses half-way mark

The counting of votes in Mizoram has finally begun in the state. The elections for the 40 assembly seats in Mizoram took place on November 7 and witnessed a tough competition between key players including the Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), Congress, and BJP.

The counting was supposed to happen on Sunday along with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. However, it was deferred by the Election Commission following appeals by political parties, NGOs, churches and students' bodies as Sunday holds a special significance for the people of Mizoram, a Christian-majority state.

As per the exit polls projection, there is going to be a showdown between the regional heavyweights MNF and ZPM.

Mizoram is a Christian-majority state. Zoramthanga of the MNF became Chief Minister after the 1998 Assembly polls, ending Congress's 10-year rule. The MNF governed for a decade until Congress won in 2008 and 2013. Returning to power in 2018, MNF aims for another victory in the 40-member Assembly this year.
