Who is Umesh Kumar? Independent 'sting fame' candidate from Haridwar

Haridwar Lok Sabha seat will go to polls in the first phase of the seven-phased general elections on April 19. Haridwar is set to witness a three-way contest between BJP's former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat, Independent candidate Umesh Kumar and state vice president of the Congress Virender Rawat.

Who is Umesh Kumar?

The independent candidate from Haridwar is making this upcoming Lok Sabha elections even more interesting. Umesh Kumar is a sitting MLA from Khanpur constituency in Uttarakhand. He won as an independent candidate in 2022. Umesh Kumar, a property dealer-turned-journalist-turned-politician garnered fame through his sting operations.

He conducted a sting operation on Congress' former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat in 2016 and before that, on BJP leader Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in 2010.

Not just this, he is the CEO of the Hindi news channel Samachar Plus.

He is quite popular on social media. As per reports, Umesh Kumar owns several luxury vehicles, including Land Cruiser, Mercedes, Range Rover, Audi, Vanity Van, and Jaguar among others.
