PM Modi calls electoral bonds an attempt to stop black money in politics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the electoral bonds scheme an attempt by the BJP-led government at the Centre to stop the flow of black money into politics.

He argued that the government stopped printing Rs 1000 and Rs 2000 notes, also as a measure to prevent black money.

Modi refuted opposition claims that several companies made large donations to the BJP when central investigative agencies, like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), came knocking on their doors.

According to the Prime Minister, only 37 per cent of the funds donated by companies facing investigations went to the BJP. The rest 63 per cent, he said, went to opposition parties.
