'Nothing wrong with looking like Africans': BJP's Tamil Nadu chief on Pitroda row

Even as national Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have launched a full-blown attack on Congress over Sam Pitroda's allegedly 'racist' remarks, the saffron party's Tamil Nadu chief has a different take on the controversy.

In an interview with The Statesman, Pitroda described India as a diverse country, "where people in the East look like Chinese, people in the West look like Arabs, people in the North maybe look White and people in the South resemble Africans".

Modi launched a scathing attack on Congress and Rahul Gandhi, saying, "Will a person's nationality be decided based on their skin colour? Who gave Shehzada the authority? Those who don't care about the Constitution are insulting people based on skin colour."

However, BJP's Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai shrugged off the comments, asserting that there was "nothing wrong with looking like Africans."

At the same time, he slammed the Congress and claimed that Pitroda's remarks exposed the party's "invader mindset."
