As the Lok Sabha polls are in its final leg, all eyes are on the Patna Sahib constituency, a key battleground with historical significance. This constituency, which was carved out of the erstwhile Patna Lok Sabha seat following the 2008 delimitation, has been held by BJP since 2009.

Shatrughan Sinha won this seat in 2009 and 2014, and Ravi Shankar Prasad in 2019. In the 2024 elections, the BJP aims to continue its winning streak by fielding the incumbent MP, Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Challenging Prasad is Anshul Avijit, son of former Lok Sabha Speaker and five-time MP Meira Kumar. Avijit's mother was the second woman to be nominated for president of India by a major political block when she secured the United Progressive Alliance's nomination in 2017. Congress has fielded Avijit to reclaim the constituency.

Anshul Avijit brings a legacy of political acumen inherited from his mother, who has been a prominent figure in Indian politics.

Despite rumours of Avijit's potential defection to the BJP, he has reaffirmed his commitment to the Congress. His nomination was officially announced on April 23, 2024, following Meira Kumar's decision to step back from electoral politics.

Whereas, Prasad, who has been a prominent figure in the Narendra Modi cabinet. He held the position of Law Minister thrice. Prasad is a seasoned politician known for his legislative achievements, including the abolition of the triple talaq practice.

This constituency comprises six Vidhan Sabha segments: Bakhtiarpur, Digha, Bankipur, Kumhrar, Patna Sahib, and Fatuha. Patna Sahib will go to polls on June 1.
