Arvinder Singh Lovely resigns as Delhi Congress chief

In a setback to the Congress amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned as Delhi Congress chief on April 28.

In a letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely expressed his concerns over candidate selection for Lok Sabha seats in Delhi by the party high command.

Without naming Udit Raj and Kanhaiya Kumar, Lovely wrote that tickets from North West Delhi and North East Delhi constituencies were given to candidates who are strangers to Delhi Congress and the party's policies.

Lovely accused the North West Delhi candidate (Udit Raj) of making derogatory and anti-party statements.
"[He] disrespected our very own party workers," Lovely wrote.

"The candidate from North East Delhi [Kanhaiya Kumar] has also been giving media bites falsely praising the Delhi CM in direct contravention of the party line and local party workers' beliefs," added Lovely.
