Arun Govil: Congress to BJP 'ghar vaapsi', know all about BJP's Meerut candidate

TV actor Arun Govil, who is popularly known for his role as Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's mythological drama Ramayana, is all set for elections. He is contesting from the Meerut Lok Sabha seat in western Uttar Pradesh.

Meerut is Govil's birthplace and it appears that reel life Lord Ram's 'vanvaas' is now over. Arun Govil joined the BJP in 2021. He has replaced the party's sitting MP Rajendra Agarwal.

Earlier, in the 1980s, Arun Govil campaigned for Congress in Prayagraj. Rajiv Gandhi called him to campaign for Suneel Shastri, who was contesting against VP Singh. Govil came in to help Congress in Ram's attire but it did not help Congress to win that seat.

Govil made his TV debut in 1987 with Ramanand Sagar's Vikram Betaal. However, he garnered fame through Ramayan. With the mythological TV show, he became a household name.

Even with a shining television career and fame, he wasn't happy with the government. In 2020, he shared a tweet that neither any state government nor central government gave him any honour.

Govil also said that he is from Uttar Pradesh and not even the UP government gave him any recognition.

Now that Govil is contesting from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, he is likely to not have any complaints with the BJP.
