'People pinching themselves': Despite losing, why AAP chief Kejriwal is happy with Gujarat poll result

Despite winning only about 5 seats in Gujarat, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal expressed happiness after the state election results were declared.

Kejriwal said that with its Gujarat performance, AAP had become a "national party".

He said that just 10 years ago, AAP was a small party, but now has governments in 2 states, and has also secured the "national party" tag.

After BJP headed to a record tally in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was overcome with a lot of emotions on the "phenomenal election results".

The Congress and the BJP were locked in a neck-and-neck fight in initial rounds of counting, but in the end the saffron outfit emerged victorious with a comfortable vote gap.

In 2017, the Opposition Congress had clinched the seat after a gap of 25 years. Parmar had bagged the Assembly segment five years ago by a little over 5,000 votes after three failed attempts.
