Hospitalisation rate 5-10% for third wave but situation dynamic: Govt

India is witnessing a hospitalisation rate of 5-10 per cent in the third Covid wave, the government said on Monday.

The Modi govt asked states to keep a watch on cases under home isolation and in hospitals saying that the situation is dynamic and the need of institutional care may change rapidly.

As per official data, hospitalisation rate was in the range of 20-30 per cent during the second wave last year.

India recorded nearly 1.8 lakh cases on Monday morning with daily positivity rate standing at 13.29 percent.

The number of cases in the country are witnessing a dramatic rise given an average of 10,000 to 15,000 cases were being reported merely 10 days ago.

The Health Ministry said that the rise appears to be driven by the highly infectious Omicron variant of coronavirus.

All states and union territories have been asked to keep a daily watch on oxygen beds, ICU beds, and ventilator support.
