Two-wheeler sales continue to fall in July

While Hero Motocorp, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India, Bajaj Auto reported a decline in sales, TVS Motor and Suzuki Motorcycle saw a growth

Two-wheeler sales continue to fall in July

The two-wheeler sales continued to decline in July even as the sales of passenger vehicle (PV) saw a rise. Meanwhile, the sales of electric two-wheeler has crossed 51,000 in July which is a 11% improvement compared to June.

Hero MotoCorp

Hero MotoCorp recorded a 12% decline in total sales compared to the same period last year. The manufacturer sold only 3,91,310 units as compared to 4,45,580 units last year. Similarly the domestic sales also saw a drop as only 3,71,204 units were sold which is down from 4,30,684 units that were sold in July 2022.

"The numbers are reflective of the inclement weather conditions in July, including unprecedented rains and floods in certain parts of the country," the company said in a statement. "The incessant rains and the floods caused crop damage in several states and also resulted in a sharp decline in customer footfalls at the dealerships," the statement added.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India

The sales of two-wheeler declined to 3,38,310 units in July. The company reported a total sales of 4,43,643 units in July last year. This July HMSI sales includes domestic sales of 3,10,867 units and exports of 27,443 units.

Bajaj Auto

The total two-wheeler sales dropped by 15% from 315,054 units in July last year to 268,840 units in the same month this year. The domestic two-wheeler sales dropped 14% to 1,41,990 units from 1,26,850 units Y-O-Y. The exports too declined 16% to 1,26,850 units.

TVS Motor

Meanwhile, TVS Motor saw a growth of 4% in sales in July. The sales increased from 299,658 units in July 2022 to 312,307 units in July 2023. Domestic two-wheeler sales registered a growth of 17% to 235,230 units in July 2023 from 201,942 units in July 2022.

Suzuki Motorcycle India

Suzuki Motorcycle India also recorded a whopping 41.5% growth in July 2023 compared to the same month last year. The company sold 107,836 units in July 2023 out of which 80,309 were sold in domestic markets and exported 27,527 units to the international markets
