#RIPCartoonNetwork goes viral; is Cartoon Network really shutting down?

Known for famous shows like Tom and Jerry, Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls among others, Cartoon Network has been an integral part of every 90s kid’s childhood.

A new trend #RIPCartoonNetwork on X sparked widespread speculation of the channel shutting down, making millennials feel like they are losing a beloved piece of their childhood nostalgia. But, reports say that Cartoon Network is not shutting down.

The trend began after the X handle Animation Workers Ignited posted a montage video with the message “Cartoon Network is dead?” The post was meant to highlight the challenges faced by animators within the industry, such as layoffs and financial instability in other studios.

The video claimed that several animators have been unemployed for over a year amid unprecedented job losses.

As the video continued, it said and I quote "That's right, when COVID first hit, animation was able to operate completely remotely."

The clip, which has already amassed 5 million views, inspired users to share short clips from their favorite episodes.

While one user mentioned and I quote 'Its sad to see the most iconic building in everybody’s childhood. Rest in peace cartoon network studios. So weird and painful to say goodbye to an iconic piece of history.

Thanks for the memories'. Another user wrote, “It is really end of era on the iconic childhood memories in Cartoon Network.”Meanwhile, Cartoon Network has not issued any statement surrounding this issue.
