Google and Oracle data centres are having a 'meltdown' in the heatwave

From forests to firms nothing is escaping the heat wave across the globe. Record-setting temperatures in Britain, is not just knocking the wind out of summer tourists but also knocking some websites offline.

London data centers used by Google and Oracle had a 'meltdown' in the heat as both companies cited problems with “cooling systems” for causing the outages.

According to Google Cloud's service health page, one of its London buildings hosting cloud services for Western Europe regions experienced a "cooling related failure". The company powered down services in part of that region to fix the issue.

Meanwhile, Oracle's service health page said it's working to repair the cooling system in its London data center and has powered down some of its services to "to prevent uncontrolled hardware failures.".

To prevent permanent damage to hardware components and thus create a prolonged outage, both Google and Oracle have shut down equipment, leading to outages in their cloud services. Several hours later, Google still listed some of its cloud services as down in the region.

The UK experienced its hottest day on record on Tuesday at 40 degree, according to the Met Office, breaking a 2019 record.
