Flipkart plans 100,000 seasonal jobs for the festive season

Flipkart, owned by Walmart, to create 100,000 seasonal jobs ahead of the festive season, driven by its annual Big Billion Days sale in October

Flipkart plans 100,000 seasonal jobs for the festive season

Flipkart, the prominent e-commerce giant owned by Walmart, has disclosed its plan to generate one lakh seasonal job opportunities in anticipation of the upcoming festive season. This festive period, which traditionally falls in October, aligns with Flipkart's renowned annual sales period, known as The Big Billion Days (TBBD).

Seasonal jobs are essentially temporary positions that companies create during specific periods to meet heightened demand for their services. The festive season, spanning from September to November, is of paramount significance to e-commerce entities, accounting for approximately 50% of the Gross Merchandise Value (GMV).

In the previous year, the cumulative GMV for these companies amounted to approximately $12 billion, with a remarkable $6 billion arising solely from the festive season, as per insights from Redseer analysts.

Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain, Customer Experience, and ReCommerce at Flipkart Group, emphasized the colossal scale of TBBD, necessitating the augmentation of capacity, storage, sorting, packaging, human resources, training, delivery, and the entire supply chain. This scale of operations is perpetually unparalleled.

The headquarters of Flipkart in Bengaluru has said that the job openings will be distributed among various segments such as the supply chain, sortation centers, and delivery hubs. These seasonal positions will encompass roles for local kirana delivery partners, women, individuals with disabilities (PWDs), and others.
