US Fed has made another aggressive rate hike by 75 basis points in the latest policy to tame inflation. RBI is also expected to hike the rate for the third consecutive time. Experts predict a rate hike of 25-50 basis points from RBI in this upcoming policy. 
As the meeting comes at a time when global central banks are tightening the monetary policy and raising interest rates, many experts now believe that the RBI is more likely to go for a 25-35 basis points (BPS) increase in policy rate than a 50 bps hike.
Currently, inflation is at 7.01% in June and has been above RBI's comfort zone of 6% for the sixth-consecutive month.
While the rupee has hit a series of lows in recent months, dropping past 80 to a dollar in July, it has pulled back amid signs of returning foreign fund inflows. It is advisable that RBI should keep a tab on interest rate differentials with the US to curb any build-up of speculative pressures on the INR, triggered by low implied yields that reduces the cost of shorting rupee.

This marks a 0.4-0.7% cut in estimates. Worsening growth prospects in the U.S., China and India drove the IMF’s downward revisions.India's economy is now projected to grow by 7.4% in FY23, 80 basis points lower than IMF’s April projection of 8.2%. India’s FY24 growth forecast has also been cut by 80 basis points to 6.1%."For India, the revision reflects mainly less favourable external conditions and more rapid policy tightening," the report said.

After banning wheat exports in May, the government has now decided to put in place a new approval framework for wheat flour and other related products like maida, semolina (rava / sirgi), wholemeal atta and resultant atta. 
Exporters of wheat flour would now need approval of the inter-ministerial committee for shipments of atta. The new requirement will be applicable from July 12.
"Export policy of wheat flour (atta) remains free but export shall be subject to recommendation of inter-ministerial committee on export of wheat," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Thursday said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called the planets to the rescue of the economy after giving up hope in her own skills and that of her economic advisers. His swipe at <a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/trending-video-fm-sitharaman-offering-water-to-nsdl-md-goes-viral-1652079759575" target="_blank">Nirmala&nbsp;Sitharaman</a> came after she had on Tuesday retweeted images unveiled by NASA from its new powerful space telescope. "We are not surprised that the Finance Minister tweeted pictures of Jupiter, Pluto and Uranus on the day when Inflation printed at 7.01% and unemployment printed at 7.8%," Chidambaram tweeted. "After giving up hope in her own skills and the skills of her economic advisers, the FM has called the planets to the rescue of the economy," the former finance minister said. To begin with, she should appoint a new "CEA:<a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/economy/why-is-p-chidambaram-asking-fm-sitharaman-to-take-up-astrology-1657776179722" target="_blank"> Chief Economic Astrologer</a>", P Chidambaram added. Mahanagar Gas has cut the prices of kitchen fuel Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and automobile fuel Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), following an increase in allocation of domestically produced natural gas from the government.

CNG PNG Price Today : Mahanagar Gas has cut the prices of kitchen fuel Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and automobile fuel Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), following an increase in allocation of domestically produced natural gas from the government.
The price of PNG has been reduced by Rs 4 per standard cubic metre to Rs 48.50 per SCM, while that of CNG by Rs 6 a kilogram to Rs 80 per kg, as per an official statement.
After the rate revision, <a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/png-cng-prices-hiked-again-1659497575709">CNG </a>usage will help a vehicle owner save 48 per cent on fuel costs in the financial capital, Mahanagar Gas Ltd (MGL) said.
In the case of PNG users, the savings will be 18 per cent when compared with the most used alternative Liquified Petroleum Gas (<a href="https://www.editorji.com/business-news/lpg-price-cut-find-out-cooking-gas-prices-from-today-1659326025907">LPG</a>), it said.

Milk Price Hike : Amul has hiked milk prices by Rs 2 per litre. The new prices will be effective from August 17.

Milk Price Hike : The headline inflation may be easing for data watchers but for consumers the price rise is relentless. Milk price has been hiked by Rs 2/litre by Amul as well as Mother Dairy.&nbsp; With the Rs 2 hike, full cream milk in Ahmedabad, Delhi NCR, Kolkata and Mumbai metro markets will cost Rs 62 per litre, while toned milk will be sold at Rs 50 per litre. For Amul Shakti, customers have to pay Rs 56 per litre.&nbsp; This price hike is being done due to an increase in the overall cost of operation and production of milk. The cattle feeding cost alone has increased to approximately 20 per cent compared to last year, Amul said. "Considering the rise in input costs, our member unions have also increased farmers&rsquo; prices in the range of 8-9 per cent over the previous year," Amul said in a statement.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hit out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for giving a "perverse twist" to the debate on freebies, saying the AAP leader's comments are an attempt to create fears in the minds of the poor.
A day after Kejriwal joined the debate on freebies calling for a referendum on spending taxpayers' money on healthcare and education, Sitharaman said that spending on these two has never been called or classified as freebies since Independence and to drag them now into the debate is to give a perverse twist.
"Delhi Chief Minister has given perverse twist to the debate on freebies. Health and education have never been called freebies," she told reporters here.
"No Indian government has ever denied them since Independence. So, by classifying education and health as freebies, Kerjiwal is trying to bring in a sense of worry and fear in minds of poor," she said.
In recent days, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hit out competitive populism of extending "rewaris" (freebies) which are not just wastage of taxpayers' money but also an economic disaster that could hamper India's drive to become Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant).
His comments were seen directed at parties like AAP which have in the run-up to assembly elections in states like Punjab promised free electricity and water, among other things.
Sitharaman said there has to be a genuine debate on the issue and everyone should participate in it.
