The latest report 'Child Labour: Global estimates 2020, Trends and the Road Forward' by ILO and UNICEF suggests 160 million children aged 5-17 years &ndash; were in child labour globally at the&nbsp;beginning of 2020. A further 8.9 million children will be in child labour&nbsp;by the end of 2022 as a result of rising poverty driven by the pandemic.
The report warns that global progress against child labour has stalled since 2016 and more efforts are needed to meet&nbsp;the SDG target to end&nbsp;child labour in all its forms by 2025. Without accelerated action, the report projects that close to 140 million children will be in child labour in 2025, and 125 million in 2030.
Civil Society and Non-Profit organisations (NGOs) can play a vital role in eliminating child labour, by reaching out to the last mile child and families. The organisations can also help government to deliver the social protection schemes to the marginalised children.
In 2020, Child Rights and You prevented or referred close to 4000 cases of child labour for rescue and support in its intervention areas across states.
However, there is a long way to go to free the country from child labour. It is possible when all individuals/citizens come forward and join hands to address the issue.

Without protection of their primary care givers, children often feel lost and most importantly they are exposed to anti-social elements luring them into trafficking, child labour, etc. Coming to the aid of such vulnerable children, the central and state governments has introduced several schemes to take care of such children, which includes free education, health insurance and financial aid.

Welcoming the move, Director of Policy, Advocacy and Research at Child Rights and You, Priti Mahara said that &ldquo;these are important safeguards for children. We are hopeful that while developing guidelines and operational modalities, the schemes announced by the Centre and States will take into consideration the requirements of the most vulnerable children, including girls, children from remote / tribal areas, children from marginalised and minority communities, and also children with disabilities.&rdquo;

A little less than 50 per cent of them reported of feeling worried (41.9 per cent). 45.2 per cent of child respondents experienced boredom, while 30 per cent of children reported to be confused and 30 per cent scared.
However, children also showed tremendous resilience in fighting out the multiple&nbsp;stress factors.&nbsp;
Many of them shared that they engaged in some form of recreation, such as playing (26.4 per cent), listening to music (10.4 per cent), watching TV (10.2 per cent), painting, singing, dancing and reading (9.4 per cent)
A lot of participants also relied on their support systems in this time, as they mentioned that speaking to or spending time with their family members and friends helped them cope
Participants underscored the role played by their families, especially their mothers (55.6 per cent), fathers (45.9 per cent), siblings (13.2 per cent) and friends in helping them deal with the stress induced by the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;

As the World recently celebrated International Volunteers Day on 5th Dec, Child Rights and You (CRY) saluted the spirit of its large base of volunteers and interns braving COVID-19 crisis to help underprivileged children.
Puja&nbsp;Marwaha, CEO&nbsp;of CRY said,&nbsp;"This was an amazing time where volunteers have helped us do so much. Whether it was sort of during the COVID terrible period, actually be able to help us put together resources on COVID health, whether it was the emergency footprint, whether it was the #VaccineMitra campaign. Some children used the Click Rights Photography initiative where children submitted unbelievably touching and reflective stories. Actually, when you sit and see this, you realize that it is really human beings are amazing, right? Even when the situation was completely new for us, where we couldn't go out, to be able to find hope and to be able to do things and to do things that are relevant for that situation. I think one of the things that we've seen in CRY is all of you (volunteers) coming and helping us with some really boring things like data gathering, crunching, data analysis, translations. And I can't begin to tell you actually how important it is for the children that we work with, for the work that we do."
In 2020-2021, over 7000 volunteers have come together against all odds, impacting the lives of nearly 10,000 children.&nbsp;
