USA: Aruna Miller scripts history by becoming first Indian-American Lieutenant Governor of Maryland

An Indian-American politician has scripted history in the US once again.

Aruna Miller, who was born in Hyderabad, has become the first Indian-American Lieutenant Governor of the state of Maryland. Miller was sworn in as the 10th LG of Maryland on 18 January 2023.

The 58-year-old recounted the story of her family's migration from India to America. Her father, a mechanical engineer, came to the US in the 1960s, and then brought his family.
Miller arrived in 1972 as a 7-year-old.

Upstate New York became home to her parents and two siblings, a brother and a sister. Her father was an engineer for IBM, according to a report in the Washington Post.

Miller has served two terms in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2010 to 2018. She also ran for congress but lost, according to the daily.
