US President Trump to Oversee Sergio Gor's Ambassador Swearing-in to India

New York/Washington, Nov 10 (PTI) US President Donald Trump is set to oversee the swearing-in of Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India on Monday. According to a White House schedule, a ceremony is planned in the Oval Office where Trump will participate in “a Swearing-in Ceremony for the Ambassador to the Republic of India.” The US Senate confirmed Gor for this esteemed role in October after Trump had previously elevated him from his position as Director of Presidential Personnel in August. Gor has also been designated as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

President Trump described Gor as a "great friend" and emphasized the importance of the role, stating, “For the most populous region in the world, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my Agenda and help us Make America Great Again.” India’s Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, remarked on Gor’s nomination, highlighting the deep trust Trump places in Gor and underscoring the significance of this appointment for India-US relations.

Kwara expressed this sentiment in a post on X, saying, “I welcome that President Trump is sending one of his most trusted aides, @SergioGor, to serve as the next US Ambassador to India.” He further elaborated that this move emphasizes the importance and priority of the relationship between the two nations, aiming to strengthen and deepen bilateral ties.

At his September confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Gor emphasized the strategic partnership between the US and India, acknowledging India’s growing influence in the region. He promised to advance America’s interests, stating that improving US-India trade ties would bolster US competitiveness and lessen China's economic leverage. Gor also underlined India’s crucial role in maintaining regional stability and security. “A stable South Asia is in the interest of the United States and all nations,” he said, adding that this collaboration will define the 21st century. “By working together, we can make that aspiration a reality,” Gor affirmed. If confirmed, he assured efforts to maintain US global leadership while enhancing a mutually beneficial partnership.
