Terror case on Pakistan minister: after Imran Khan, Rana Sanaullah booked by Punjab province police

In a fresh sign of the worsening situation in Pakistan, the country's Interior Minister was booked in a terrorism case on 25 August 2022. Police in Pakistan's Punjab province filed a case accusing Rana Sanaullah of terrorism, and threatening the judiciary and government officials.

This came days after former Prime Minister Imran Khan was booked under similar charges. Moonis Elahi, the son of Punjab province's Chief Minister Parvez Elahi said that the federal government was filing false cases against Imran Khan, but now the people of Pakistan had filed genuine cases against federal ministers.

It was on Sanaullah’s orders that Imran Khan was booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act after he allegedly threatened an additional sessions judge, and senior officers of the Islamabad Police at a recent rally.

The complainant against the federal minister reportedly claimed that on 21 August, a news channel aired Sanaullah's speeches from April 2021 and January 2022. In those speeches, Sanaullah allegedly threatened the judiciary, the Punjab Chief Secretary, and Lahore Commissioner and their children.
