Imran Khan gets protective bail from arrest till Thursday

Handing Pakistan ex-PM a breather, the Islamabad High Court on Monday granted Imran Khan protective bail from arrest till Thursday.

The news comes as a relief for Imran and his supporters after he was booked under the anti-terror act.

Earlier, hundreds of supporters of Pakistan's former prime minister, Imran Khan, had gathered outside his hilltop mansion in the capital, Islamabad as they vowed to prevent his possible arrest.

The development comes after a police case filed against Imran for allegedly threatening government officials in a public speech about the alleged police torture of one of his aides, who faces sedition charges for inciting mutiny in the powerful military.

The protesters chanted slogans against the government of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which took over after Imran’s ouster in a confidence vote in April.

A senior leader of Imran’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf told local TV news channels that the police had issued orders for Imran’s arrest.
