Summer 2023 has shattered all previous heat records, scientists say

Scientists are saying that this year’s summer has been significantly hotter and has broken all previous records.

The Copernicus Climate Change Service registered a spike of 0.3 degrees Celsius, which is significantly steeper than the usual upticks. The previous global average temperature record was 16.77 degrees Celsius.

This year’s July and August also set individual temperature records, which were estimated to be 1.5 degrees warmer than pre-industrial levels.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres also addressed the new record and passed warnings against climate change. “Our planet has just endured a season of simmering – the hottest summer on record. Climate breakdown has begun,” he said, as per CNN.

In addition to global temperatures, oceans have also been getting warmer. The average global ocean surface temperature reached 20.96 degrees Celsius and shattered previous records.
