Salman Rushdie can't see from one eye, can't use one hand after knife attack, says agent: reports

Author Salman Rushdie has lost sight in one eye and the use of one hand after being stabbed at an event in New York earlier this year. The revelations about the award-winning author's health were made by his literary agent in an interview with a Spanish newspaper, as per reports.

Agent Andrew Wylie said that the writer of 'The Satanic Verses' had "three serious wounds" in his neck. One of his hands is incapacitated because the nerves in his arm were slashed. Rushdie has around 15 more wounds in his chest and torso, as per Wylie. It is not clear whether the author is still in hospital.

In August 2022, Rushdie was stabbed multiple times at a literary event in New York, USA. 24-year-old Hadi Matar was apprehended by police after the attack. Matar accused Rushdie of "attacking Islam".

The attack on the India-born author had come over 3 decades after Iran's religious leader Ruhollah Khomeini had issued a 'fatwa' for Rushdie's assassination. His book 'The Satanic Verses' was accused of being blasphemous.
