A statement issued by the High Commission said that they have urged Canadian officials to organisers of the event to withdraw all provocative material. 
The poster in question is of the the film 'Kaali' by Toronto-based filmmaker Leena Manimekalai. It shows Goddess Kalli smoking and holding an LGBTQ flag and has led to a social media storm with the hashtag 'Arrest Leena Manimekalai'. 
In response to the attacks, the Toronto-based director hit back to say she was willing to pay with her life.
"I have nothing to lose. Till the time I live, I wish to live with a voice that speaks what I believe without fear. If the price for that is my life, it can be given," Manimekalai wrote in a Twitter post in Tamil in response to an article on the controversy.
The Madurai-born filmmaker had shared the poster of "Kaali" on the microblogging site on Saturday and said the film was part of the 'Rhythms of Canada' segment at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.
Manimekalai also urged people to watch the film to understand the context behind the poster.

At least five people are dead and 19 were taken to hospitals after a shooting at a July Fourth parade in a Chicago suburb, police said.
The shooting in Highland Park disrupted the annual parade just after it began at 10 am.
Highland Park Police said in a statement that five people were killed and 19 people were taken to hospitals. It was unclear if the five dead were among the 19 hospitalised.
The police said authorities are still searching for the suspect and called it an active incident.

A gunman on a rooftop opened fire on an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago on Monday, killing at least six people, wounding at least 30 and sending hundreds of marchers, parents with strollers and children on bicycles fleeing in terror, police said. The suspect remained on the loose hours later as authorities scoured the area.
Highland Park Police Chief Lou Jogmen said Monday afternoon that police have identified 22-year-old Robert E Crimo III as a person of interest and cautioned he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police declined to answer questions about how they identified Crimo. Authorities described his car as a silver Honda Fit with an Illinois license plate DM 80653.
The July 4 shooting was just the latest to shatter the rituals of American life. Schools, churches, grocery stores and now community parades have all become killing grounds in recent months. This time, the bloodshed came as the nation tried to find cause to celebrate its founding and the bonds that still hold it together.
Mayor Nancy Rotering said the violence &ldquo;has shaken us to our core,&rdquo; adding, "On a day that we came together to celebrate community and freedom, we are instead mourning the tragic loss of life and struggling with the terror that was brought upon us.&rdquo; The shooting occurred at a spot on the parade route where many residents had staked out prime viewing points early in the day for the annual celebration. Dozens of fired bullets sent hundreds of parade-goers &mdash; some visibly bloodied &mdash; fleeing.
&ldquo;There's no safe place,&rdquo; said Highland Park resident Barbara Harte, 73, who had stayed away from the parade fearing a mass shooting, but later ventured from her home.
Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said at a news conference &ldquo;several of the deceased victims&rdquo; died at the scene and one was taken to a hospital and died there. Police have not released details about the victims or wounded.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said the five people killed at the parade were adults and she doesn't have information on the sixth victim who was taken to a hospital and died there.
Roberto Velasco, Mexico's director for North American affairs, said on Twitter Monday that one Mexican national was killed in Highland Park and added that two other Mexicans were wounded.
Dr Brigham Temple, medical director of emergency preparedness for NorthShore University Health Center, said the Highland Park hospital received 26 patients after the attack and all but one had gunshot wounds. Their ages ranged from 8 to 85, and Temple estimated that four or five patients were children.
He said 19 of them were treated and discharged. Others were transferred to other hospitals, while two patients, in stable condition, remained at the Highland Park hospital.
The shooter opened fire around 10.15 am, when the parade was about three-quarters through, authorities said.
Highland Park Police Commander Chris O'Neill, the incident commander on scene, said the gunman apparently used a &ldquo;high-powered rifle&rdquo; to fire from a spot atop a commercial building where he was &ldquo;very difficult to see.&rdquo; He said the rifle was recovered at the scene. Police also found a ladder attached to the building.
&ldquo;Very random, very intentional and a very sad day,&rdquo; Covelli said.
President Joe Biden on Monday said he and first lady Jill Biden were &ldquo;shocked by the senseless gun violence that has yet again brought grief to an American community on this Independence Day.&rdquo; He said he had &ldquo;surged Federal law enforcement to assist in the urgent search for the shooter, who remains at large at this time.&rdquo; Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were conducting an urgent trace of the rifle, agency spokesperson April Langwell said. Federal agents conduct such traces to identify when, where and to whom the gun was last sold.
Police believe there was only one shooter but warned that he should still be considered armed and dangerous. Several nearby cities cancelled events including parades and fireworks, some of them noting that the Highland Park shooter was still at large. Evanston, Deerfield, Skokie, Waukegan and Glencoe cancelled events. The Chicago White Sox also announced on Twitter that a planned post-game fireworks show is cancelled due to the shooting.
&ldquo;You have a tragic mass act of violence that was random here today at a community event where people were gathered to celebrate, and the offender has not been apprehended thus far,&rdquo; Covelli, the crime task force spokesman, said. &ldquo;So, could this happen again? We don't know what his intentions are at this point, so certainly we're not sure of that.&rdquo; More than 100 law enforcement officers were called to the parade scene or dispatched to find the suspected shooter.
Hours after the shooting, law enforcement officers searched an office building near where the shooting occurred. Nearby, armed FBI agents in camouflage had also escorted a family with two small girls across Central Avenue. The children looked visibly frightened even as their mother attempted to reassure them that the agents leading and flanking them would protect them.
&ldquo;Don't worry, you're safe now,&rdquo; she told them. &ldquo;These guys will protect you.&rdquo; Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker said in a statement: &ldquo;There are no words for the kind of monster who lies in wait and fires into a crowd of families with children celebrating a holiday with their community.&rdquo;

A camping association, Responsible Campers Association Inc (RCAi) in New Zealand is seeking a change in the government's law by allowing people to poop in public places if they don't think that they are being observed.
The spokesperson of RCAi said that currently in section 32 of the Summary Offence Act a person will be fined for urinating or pooping in a public place if they believe they are not getting observed.
The association also called for more toilet facilities to be made available for travelers. On the other hand, freedom camping group often don't agree with it, somehow they are against pooping or urinating in tourist places.

Rescuers said conditions downslope from the glacier, which has been melting for decades, were still too unstable to immediately send teams of people and dogs to dig into tons of debris. 
Premier Mario Draghi and the head of the national Civil Protection agency were expected to go on Monday to Canazei, a tourist town in the Dolomite range which has been serving as a base for rescuers. 
Relatives were also expected to go to the town to identify bodies when rescuers can safely remove them from the mountain. 
What caused a pinnacle of the glacier to break off and thunder down the slope at a speed estimated by experts at some 300 kph (nearly 200 mph), wasn't immediately known.

Danish police said Sunday that several people were shot at a Copenhagen shopping mall, one of the largest in Scandinavia.
Copenhagen police said that one person has been arrested in connection with the shooting at the Field’s shopping mall, which is close to the city's airport.

Images from the scene showed people running out of the mall, and Denmark’s TV2 broadcaster posted a photo of a man being put on a stretcher.
Witnesses said people were crying and hid in shops.
A huge presence of heavily-armed police officers was on hand, with several fire department vehicles also parked outside the mall.
The shopping center is on the outskirts of Copenhagen just across from a subway line that connects the city center with the international airport.
A major highway also runs adjacent to Fields, which opened in 2004.

The shooting happened in the late afternoon at Field&rsquo;s, one of the biggest shopping malls in Scandinavia, located on the outskirts of the Danish capital.
When the shots rang out, some people hid in shops while others fled in a panicked stampede, witnesses said.
&ldquo;It is pure terror. This is awful," said Hans Christian Stoltz, a 53-year-old IT consultant.
Stoltz was bringing his daughters to see former One Direction band member Harry Styles perform at a concert scheduled for Sunday night near the mall.
Organisers called off the concert, which had been scheduled at the nearby Royal Arena, by order of police.
On Snapchat, Styles wrote: "My team and I pray for everyone involved in the Copenhagen shopping mall shooting. I am shocked. Love H.&rdquo;

Ukrainian authorities dismantled the Monument of People's Friendship on Tuesday, a statue overlooking the Dnieper River in Kyiv, representing Russian-Ukrainian friendship.
The installation was gifted to Ukraine by the Soviet government in 1982 as a symbol of the relationship between the Russia and Ukraine.
Mykhailo Khomenko, who participated in ceremony of opening the monument, recalls that day.
"I remember we were wearing historical suits, jackets, national trousers, so there was a choreographic-pantomimic composition," he told the Associated Press.
Kyiv City Council announced Monday that it would remove the statue along with 60 other monuments in the capital.
"It should have been removed 30 years ago. But now is also fine. It`s better to do it later than never. We waited so long," said Nadiya Orlova.

Investigators have called the case a Ponzi scheme with a "virtual twist". Basically, Ignatova's company sold OneCoin tokens which were worthless. Customers were promised high returns with low risk.
An exchange to convert OneCoin into real currency was never set up. Additionally, OneCoin was not backed by crypto-technology like blockchain, which is a decentralised digital ledger.

Customers were also told to encourage people they knew to buy OneCoin. In return, these customers were given commission for selling the cryptocurrency.
Ponzi schemes usually collapse when fresh customers dry up, and the flow of money stops, as the main product has no real value. To keep investors enthused, Ignatova also claimed that an IPO was in the pipeline, but it never occurred.&nbsp;
Some arrests have taken place in the case. In 2019, Ruja Ignatova's brother Konstantin was arrested by the FBI. He reportedly pleaded guilty and struck a deal to cooperate with the government.
Along with Konstantin Ignatov, US corporate lawyer Mark Scott was convicted for laundering $400 million for OneCoin. However, the prominent face of the company remains at large.

A satellite the size of a microwave oven successfully broke free from its orbit around Earth on Monday and is headed toward the moon, the latest step in NASA's plan to land astronauts on the lunar surface again.
It's been an unusual journey already for the Capstone satellite. It was launched six days ago from New Zealand's Mahia Peninsula by the company Rocket Lab in one of their small Electron rockets. It will take another four months for the satellite to reach the moon, as it cruises along using minimal energy.
Rocket Lab founder Peter Beck told The Associated Press it was hard to put his excitement into words.
“It's probably going to take a while to sink in. It's been a project that has taken us two, two-and-a-half years and is just incredibly, incredibly difficult to execute,” he said. “So to see it all come together tonight and see that spacecraft on its way to the moon, it's just absolutely epic.” Beck said the relatively low cost of the mission — NASA put it at USD 32.7 million — marked the beginning of a new era for space exploration.
“For some tens of millions of dollars, there is now a rocket and a spacecraft that can take you to the moon, to asteroids, to Venus, to Mars,” Beck said. “It's an insane capability that's never existed before.” If the rest of the mission is successful, the Capstone satellite will send back vital information for months as the first to take a new orbit around the moon called a near-rectilinear halo orbit: a stretched-out egg shape with one end of the orbit passing close to the moon and the other far from it.
Eventually, NASA plans to put a space station called Gateway into the orbital path, from which astronauts can descend to the moon's surface as part of its Artemis program.
Beck said the advantage of the new orbit is that it minimizes fuel use and allows the satellite — or a space station — to stay in constant contact with Earth.
The Electron rocket that launched June 28 from New Zealand was carrying a second spacecraft called Photon, which separated after nine minutes. The satellite was carried for six days in Photon, with the spacecraft's engines firing periodically to raise its orbit farther and farther from Earth.
A final engine burst Monday allowed Photon to break from Earth's gravitational pull and send the satellite on its way. The plan now is for the 25-kilogramme (55-pound) satellite to far overshoot the moon before falling back into the new lunar orbit Nov. 13. The satellite will use tiny amounts of fuel to make a few planned trajectory course corrections along the way.
Beck said they would decide over the coming days what to do with Photon, which had completed its tasks and still had a bit of fuel left in the tank.
“There's a number of really cool missions that we can actually do with it," Beck said.
For the mission, NASA teamed up with two commercial companies: California-based Rocket Lab and Colorado-based Advanced Space, which owns and operates the Capstone satellite.

The July 4 shooting was just the latest to shatter the rituals of American life. Schools, churches, grocery stores and now community parades have all become killing grounds in recent months. This time, the bloodshed came as the nation tried to find cause to celebrate its founding and the bonds that still hold it together.
"It is devastating that a celebration of America was ripped apart by our uniquely American plague,” Illinois Governor J B Pritzker said at a news conference.
“I'm furious because it does not have to be this way... while we celebrate the Fourth of July just once a year, mass shootings have become a weekly — yes, weekly — American tradition." The shooting occurred at a spot on the parade route where many residents had staked out prime viewing points early in the day for the annual celebration. Dozens of fired bullets sent hundreds of parade-goers — some visibly bloodied — fleeing. They left a trail of abandoned items that showed everyday life suddenly, violently disrupted: A half-eaten bag of potato chips; a box of chocolate cookies spilled onto the grass; a child's Chicago Cubs cap.
“There's no safe place,” said Highland Park resident Barbara Harte, 73, who had stayed away from the parade fearing a mass shooting, but later ventured from her home.
Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said at a news conference “several of the deceased victims” died at the scene and one was taken to a hospital and died there. Police have not released details about the victims or wounded.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said the five people killed at the parade were adults, but didn't have information on the sixth victim who was taken to a hospital and died there. One of those killed was a Mexican national, Roberto Velasco, Mexico's director for North American affairs, said on Twitter Monday. He said two other Mexicans were wounded.
NorthShore University Health Center received 26 patients after the attack. All but one had gunshot wounds, said Dr Brigham Temple, medical director of emergency preparedness. Their ages ranged from 8 to 85, and Temple estimated that four or five patients were children.
Temple said 19 of them were treated and discharged. Others were transferred to other hospitals, while two patients, in stable condition, remained at the Highland Park hospital.
The shooter opened fire around 10.15 am, when the parade was about three-quarters through, authorities said.
Highland Park Police Commander Chris O'Neill, the incident commander on scene, said the gunman apparently used a “high-powered rifle” to fire from a spot atop a commercial building where he was “very difficult to see.” He said the rifle was recovered at the scene. Police also found a ladder attached to the building.
“Very random, very intentional and a very sad day,” Covelli said.

More than 100 law enforcement officers were called to the parade scene or dispatched to find the suspected shooter.
More than a dozen police officers on Monday evening surrounded a home listed as an address for Crimo in Highland Park. Some officers held rifles as they fixed their eyes on the home. A large armoured truck, marked “Police Rescue Vehicle,” occupied the middle of the road near the residence. Police blockaded roads leading to the home in a tree-lined neighbourhood near a golf course, allowing only select law enforcement cars through a tight outer perimeter.

They left a trail of abandoned items that showed everyday life suddenly, violently disrupted: A half-eaten bag of potato chips; a box of chocolate cookies spilled onto the grass; a child's Chicago Cubs cap.
&ldquo;There's no safe place,&rdquo; said Highland Park resident Barbara Harte, 73, who had stayed away from the parade fearing a mass shooting, but later ventured from her home.
Lake County Major Crime Task Force spokesman Christopher Covelli said at a news conference &ldquo;several of the deceased victims&rdquo; died at the scene and one was taken to a hospital and died there. Police have not released details about the victims or wounded.
Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said the five people killed at the parade were adults, but didn't have information on the sixth victim who was taken to a hospital and died there. One of those killed was a Mexican national, Roberto Velasco, Mexico's director for North American affairs, said on Twitter Monday. He said two other Mexicans were wounded.
NorthShore University Health Center received 26 patients after the attack. All but one had gunshot wounds, said Dr Brigham Temple, medical director of emergency preparedness. Their ages ranged from 8 to 85, and Temple estimated that four or five patients were children.
Temple said 19 of them were treated and discharged. Others were transferred to other hospitals, while two patients, in stable condition, remained at the Highland Park hospital.
The shooter opened fire around 10.15 am, when the parade was about three-quarters through, authorities said.
Highland Park Police Commander Chris O'Neill, the incident commander on scene, said the gunman apparently used a &ldquo;high-powered rifle&rdquo; to fire from a spot atop a commercial building where he was &ldquo;very difficult to see.&rdquo; He said the rifle was recovered at the scene. Police also found a ladder attached to the building.
