Russia releases video of dead school shooter wearing t-shirt with Nazi symbol

A gunman killed at least 13 people, including seven children, and wounded 21 other people in a school in central Russia on Monday, authorities said.

Russia's Investigative Committee on Monday released footage of what it says is a dead shooter.

The Associated Press cannot independently verify the information given, or the footage provided.

In the footage, a black-clothed person is seen lying on the ground, bearing a red swastika insignia on their chest. The person's face and head, which was blurred at source, is surrounded by what appears to be blood.

In a subsequent shot, what appears to be a classroom can be seen in disarray, with people looking at the scene.

According to the Investigative Committee, the gunman wore a black t-shirt with “Nazi symbols.” No other details about the shooter or his motives have been released.

The Investigative Committee said in an online statement that two guards, two teachers and five students were killed in the shooting in a school in Izhevsk, a city about 960 kilometres (596 miles) east of Moscow in the Udmurtia region.

In a video statement, Governor of Udmurtia Alexander Brechalov said that the still unidentified attacker shot himself.

The school educates children between grades 1 and 11. It has been evacuated and the area around it has been fenced off, the governor said.

Izhevsk, a city of 640,000, is located west of the Ural mountains in central Russia.
