A day after Maryam Nawaz became the first woman chief minister of Pakistan's Punjab province, the politician courted a controversy with a viral video.

Maryam Nawaz was seen pushing away party colleague Uzma Kardar's hand after they hugged ahead of her oath-taking ceremony in Lahore on February 26.

After the video surfaced on social media where netizens mocked her, Uzma Kardar released a video justifying Maryam's actions.

"I was having breakfast and my hands were greasy, I should have been careful,' she said.

She also said, "I can not describe in words the amount of respect and love I have received from Maryam Nawaz sahiba. I can't thank her enough."

Targeting internet trolls, Kardar said, "People have a lot of issues with me, they are not able to accept the fact that I am with Maryam Sahiba ...that she gave me a party ticket."

"People need to chill. It was not her fault but mine. If I was in her place, I would have done the same," she added.
