Tragic Capsizing in Gulf of Suez Claims Lives, Investigation Underway

Cairo, July 2 (AP) An oil-drilling ship capsized in the Gulf of Suez, tragically claiming the lives of at least four crew members, while four more remain missing, authorities announced on Wednesday. The Petroleum Ministry reported that the spacecraft overturned on Tuesday evening near Ras Ghareb, on the African side of the Gulf of Suez, a vital shipping corridor of the Red Sea's northwestern arm. Governor Amr Hanafy of the Red Sea province stated there were 30 individuals on board when the unfortunate incident occurred. Rescue squads have recovered four bodies and successfully rescued 22 crew members, who have since been hospitalized. The Egyptian navy has deployed ships to support the ongoing overnight search and rescue operations for the four missing crew. The cause of the capsizing remains unknown as investigations continue. According to local media reports, the vessel was being towed for excavation at a different site when it overturned. The incident took place near Gabel el-Zeit, a renown oil production region about 300 kilometers south of the Suez Canal. Importantly, the capsizing did not interfere with ships navigating the canal, which connects the Gulf of Suez to the Mediterranean Sea, confirmed Adm. Ossam Rabei, head of the canal authority. Rabei assured in a statement that 33 vessels were slated to transit the essential international maritime passage on Wednesday. (AP) GSP
