Occupying Gaza will be big mistake for Israel: Joe Biden

US President Joe Biden has said that it would be a big mistake for Israel to occupy Gaza.

In an interview to CBS News, Biden said that Hamas and the extreme elements of Hamas don't represent all the Palestinian people.

"I think it'd be a big mistake,” said Biden. “Look, what happened in Gaza, in my view, is Hamas and the extreme elements of Hamas don't represent all the Palestinian people. And I think that it would be a mistake for Israel to occupy Gaza again."

The statement comes even as the Israeli military is preparing for a ground offensive in Gaza.

In a post on X, Biden said he spoke to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to assure him that the US is working to ensure that humanitarian supplies reach civilians in Gaza.

"I spoke with Palestinian Authority President Abbas to condemn Hamas’ attack on Israel and reiterate that Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination. I assured him that we're working with partners in the region to ensure humanitarian supplies reach civilians in Gaza and to prevent the conflict from widening," said Biden.
