China on Tuesday hit out at Japan after its Prime Minister Fumio Kishida made a surprise visit to Ukraine and overshadowed Chinese President Xi Jinping&rsquo;s meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow, saying Tokyo should do more to de-escalate the situation rather than aggravating it.
Beijing was caught by surprise as Kishida, who was on an official visit to New Delhi from March 19-21, entered Poland from India using a secretly chartered plane instead of the standard government aircraft, Japanese TV channel NHK reported.
The chartered plane left Tokyo&rsquo;s Haneda Airport at around 8 pm on Sunday, about three hours before a government plane carrying Kishida departed for India.

Media baron Rupert Murdoch on Monday announced that he is ready to marry for the fifth time at the age of 92.
The billionaire announced his engagement to Ann Lesley Smith, a 66-year-old former police chaplain.
They met in September at an event at his vineyard in California.
Murdoch told the New York Post, one of his own publications: "I dreaded falling in love - but I knew this would be my last. It better be. I'm happy." He split with his fourth wife Jerry Hall last year.
The wedding will take place in late summer.
Murdoch was previously married to Australian flight attendant Patricia Booker, Scottish-born journalist Anna Mann, and Chinese-born entrepreneur Wendi Deng.
Murdoch said that he proposed to Smith on St Patrick's Day.
Smith's late husband was Chester Smith, a country singer and radio and TV executive.
"For us both it's a gift from God. We met last September," she told the newspaper.
"I'm a widow of 14 years. Like Rupert, my husband was a businessman... So I speak Rupert's language. We share the same beliefs," she said.
Murdoch, who has six children from his first three marriages, added: "We're both looking forward to spending the second half of our lives together." Murdoch's business empire includes the Fox News in the US and the tabloid The Sun in the UK.

The BJP is the world's most important foreign political party and it may also be the least understood according to an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal authored by Walter Russell Mead.
"India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is, from the standpoint of American national interests, the most important foreign political party in the world. It may also be the least understood," the WSJ piece read.
BJP, after successive victories in 2014, and 2019 is also headed for a repeat victory in 2024, the publication stated, adding that, India is emerging both as a leading economic power and, along with Japan, as the linchpin of American strategy in the Indo-Pacific.
"For the foreseeable future the BJP will be calling the shots in a country without whose help American efforts to balance rising Chinese power are likely to fall short," it added.
The author Mr Mead believes that BJP is poorly understood because it grows out of a political and cultural history unfamiliar to most non-Indians.
The BJP's electoral dominance reflects the success of a once obscure and marginal social movement of national renewal based on efforts by generations of social thinkers and activists to chart a distinctively 'Hindu path' to modernization, the Wall Street Journal piece stated.
"Like the Muslim Brotherhood, the BJP rejects many ideas and priorities of Western liberalism even as it embraces key features of modernity. Like the Chinese Communist Party, the BJP hopes to lead a nation with more than a billion people to become a global superpower. Like the Likud Party in Israel, the BJP combines a basically pro-market economic stance with populist rhetoric and traditionalist values, even as it channels the anger of those who've felt excluded and despised by a cosmopolitan, Western-focused cultural and political elite," it added.
American analysts, particularly those of a left-liberal persuasion, often look at Narendra Modi's India and ask why it isn't more like Denmark. Their concerns aren't wholly misplaced. Journalists who are critical of the ruling coalition can face harassment and worse. Religious minorities who fall afoul of the resurgent Hindu pride that marks BJP India speak of mob violence and point to hostile official measures like broadly drafted anti-conversion laws as well as occasional outbursts of mob violence. Many fear the power of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, or RSS, a nationwide Hindu nationalist organization with close ties to BJP leadership, it added.
However, Mr Mead believes that India is a complicated place, and there are other stories as well.
Some of the BJP's most striking recent political successes have come in predominantly Christian states in India's northeast. The BJP government of Uttar Pradesh, a state with a population of about 200 million, enjoys strong support from Shia Muslims. RSS activists have played a significant role in efforts to fight caste discrimination, the opinion piece said.
"After an intensive series of meetings with senior BJP and RSS leaders, as well as some of their critics, I am convinced that Americans and Westerners generally need to engage much more deeply with a complex and powerful movement," Mr Mead wrote.
From a fringe of mostly marginalized intellectuals and religious enthusiasts, the RSS has become perhaps the "most powerful civil-society organization in the world". Its rural and urban development programs, religious education and revival efforts and civic activism, staffed by thousands of volunteers from all walks of life, have succeeded in forming the political consciousness and focusing the energies of hundreds of millions of people, the Wall Street Journal piece added.
Recalling his meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Mr Mead writes, "The movement seems to have reached a crossroads. When I met with Yogi Adityanath, a Hindu monk serving as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, considered one of the most radical voices in the movement--and sometimes spoken of as a successor to 72-year-old Prime Minister Modi--the conversation was about bringing investment and development to his state. Similarly, Mohan Bhagwat, the spiritual leader of the RSS, spoke to me about the need to accelerate India's economic growth, and disavowed the idea that religious minorities should suffer discrimination or loss of civil rights".
How these statements by top leaders to a foreign journalist will percolate down to the grassroots is impossible to predict. But I did get the impression that the leadership of a once-marginalized movement wants to position itself as the natural establishment of a rising power and is looking to engage deeply and fruitfully with the outside world without losing touch with its social and political base, he writes.
The invitation to engage with the BJP and RSS is one that Americans can't afford to reject. As tensions with China rise, the US needs India as both an economic and political partner. Understanding the ideology and the trajectory of the Hindu nationalist movement is as important for business leaders and investors seeking to engage economically with India as it is for diplomats and policymakers wanting to put the strategic relationship on a stable footing, the Wall Street Journal stated.

Turkey-backed opposition fighters in Syria fatally shot at least three ethnic Kurds who were celebrating a holiday late Monday by lighting fires, Syrian opposition activists and pro-government media said.
The shooting near the northwestern town of Jinderis, which suffered substantial damage during last month&rsquo;s earthquake, underlined the high tensions between Turkey-backed opposition fighters and the Kurdish community in Syria.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, said the shooting was carried out by members of the Ahrar Sharqiya group, an armed opposition group backed by Turkey.
The observatory said members of the group got into an argument with some Kurds after mocking them for lighting a fire in honor of the Kurdish new year celebration. Members of the Ahrar Sharqiya group shot and killed three Kurds and wounded four others, the observatory said. It said all those killed were from the same family.
The pro-government Sham FM radio station said four Kurds were killed in the shooting.
&nbsp; In the hours after the shooting, Kurds from Jinderis took to the streets. Some traveled in a convoy to the town of Atmeh, about nine miles away, where protesters called on the al-Qaida-linked Hayat Tahrir al-Sham to seize control of Jinderis from the Turkish-backed militias.
Roshin Othman, whose 50-year-old brother was among those killed and who joined the protesters, said that first a group of men began throwing stones at the Kurds who had set the fire and then &ldquo;went to their office and got weapons and began spraying bullets on everyone.&rdquo;
&ldquo;For the past five years our life is not a life,&rdquo; she said, referring to the time since Turkish-backed groups took control of Jinderis, &ldquo;We&rsquo;ve had enough of injustice.&rdquo;
Clashes between Turkey-backed opposition gunmen and Kurdish fighters have left scores of people dead on both sides in Syria.
Since 2016, Turkey has launched three major operations inside Syria, targeting Syria&rsquo;s main Kurdish militia &mdash; the People&rsquo;s Protection Units or YPG &mdash; which Turkey considers a terrorist organization and an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers&rsquo; Party, or PKK. The PKK has for decades waged an insurgency within Turkey against the government in Ankara.
The YPG, however, forms the backbone of U.S.-led forces in the fight against Islamic State militants and has been a proven top U.S. ally in Syria.
Jinderis was controlled by Kurdish fighters until 2018 when it was taken by Turkey-backed opposition fighters who still hold it. The capture of the town displaced many Kurds.

Trump has been accused of not disclosing the gifts by a partisan democratic Congressional committee. The report alleges that Trump, 76, and the First Family failed to report more than 100 foreign gifts with a total value of over a quarter of a million dollars.
In November 2021, the State Department&rsquo;s Office of the Inspector General issued a report on significant problems at the Office of the Chief of Protocol during the Trump administration, including &ldquo;missing items of a significant value.&rdquo; The report determined that a &ldquo;lack of accurate recordkeeping and appropriate physical security controls contributed to the loss of the gifts.&rdquo;
According to the report, the documents revealed that the Trump family received 17 unreported gifts from India with a total estimated value of more than USD 47,000. Among these gifts was a USD 8,500 vase by Yogi Adityanath, a USD 4,600 model of the Taj Mahal, a USD 6,600 Indian rug by former president Kovind, USD 1,900 cufflinks by Prime Minister Modi.

Nepal's Supreme Court has found the country's deputy prime minister and home minister guilty in a citizenship and passport case.
According to ANI, a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court on Friday, declared that Rabi Lamichhane did not initiate the process to take a Nepali citizenship as per Nepal Citizenship Act, 2006, after renouncing his US citizenship in 2018.&nbsp;
In a big setback to the recently elected govt in the country, the top court's order has automatically nullified Lamichhane's cabinet posts and Parliament membership.&nbsp;
