Nepal's Supreme Court declares deputy PM's citizenship illegal

After relinquishing his American citizenship, the court said that all the acts carried out by Rabi Lamichhane as a Nepali citizen would be deemed illegal.

Nepal's Supreme Court has found the country's deputy prime minister and home minister guilty in a citizenship and passport case.

According to ANI, a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court on Friday, declared that Rabi Lamichhane did not initiate the process to take a Nepali citizenship as per Nepal Citizenship Act, 2006, after renouncing his US citizenship in 2018.

In a big setback to the recently elected govt in the country, the top court's order has automatically nullified Lamichhane's cabinet posts and Parliament membership.
