'Why did you take my son’s life?', US mother faces teen accused of his murder

A grieving mother confronted the suspect accused of murdering her son in Brooklyn, posing the poignant question: "Why did you kill my son?" Her anguish was evident as she watched the suspect, in handcuffs, being led away from a police precinct on Tuesday, as reported by amNewYork Metro.

Noah Rentas, 18, a resident of South Slope, has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal stabbing near the Barclays Centre earlier this month. Authorities tracked Rentas down to his home after he was reportedly identified through a student MetroCard used near the crime scene.

Police allege that Rentas stabbed 27-year-old Michael Hernandez during an assault by a group of teenagers at the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues on March 14. The deadly encounter allegedly followed a verbal altercation, and Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the New York Post, Rentas faces charges of second-degree murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He reportedly has no prior criminal record. Sources suggest that the murder might be linked to a larger series of robberies, although Hernandez was not robbed during the incident; it is speculated that the attempted robbery may have gone awry. Hernandez's family was present at the 78th Precinct in Brooklyn as Rentas was escorted from the station after his arrest.
