McDonald’s outage: Operations disrupted in outlets in UK, Australia, Japan and more

McDonald’s outage: Operations disrupted in outlets in UK, Australia, Japan and more

McDonald’s customers around the globe were unable to place orders on March 15, with many reports coming from the United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Austria.

The fast food chain said that the issue is being resolved and is not related to cyber security. A McDonald’s franchise owner from the UK told BBC that an IT outage is behind the downtime. Customers in Japan have been asked to ‘wait for a while’ as the issue is being fixed.

“We are aware of a technology outage, which impacted our restaurants; the issue is now being resolved,” the popular fast food chain said in a statement.

Social media was soon flooded with messages from customers who were trying to place their orders early Friday. Some said their local outlets were shut but they could still order from the McDonald’s app.

Customers in the UK also complained of franchises only accepting cash and servers writing down orders on slips of paper, The Independent reported.

“The Mcdonalds outage is crazy. Went in tonight and drive thru + all kiosks were down. A system that can fail nation wide is bad but across multiple countries too?,” a user wrote on social media.
