The United States has said it will wait to see the results of the investigation announced by India concerning allegations of the involvement of an Indian official in a plot to assassinate a separatist Sikh leader in the US.
"We have noted at the most senior levels of this government &ndash; the secretary of state has raised this directly with his foreign counterpart that we take this issue very seriously. They told us they would conduct an investigation," State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters at his daily news conference on Tuesday.
"They have publicly announced an investigation. Now, we will wait to see the results of the investigation...," Miller said in response to a question.
American prosecutors have linked an Indian official to a man charged with conspiring to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on US soil.
India has described it as a "matter of concern" and asserted that follow-up action will be taken based on findings of a panel investigating the allegations.
The US, Miller said, has also urged India to cooperate with Canada's investigation of allegations of Indian involvement in the killing of a Canadian national.

She is the girl whose mother, 44-year-old Danielle Aloni, wrote an open letter thanking Hamas for treating her daughter like a queen while she was held as a hostage.
However, she later revealed that the letter was written under duress and that the reality was a horror movie.
&nbsp;&ldquo;Our daughter saw things that children at that age, or at any age, should not see,&rdquo; the woman told The US Sun.
&ldquo;It was a horror movie &mdash; you feel like you want to pinch yourself and wake up from this movie. People can die because their abductors simply decided to murder them,&rdquo; she added.

A Pakistani woman on Tuesday crossed over to India from the Wagah-Attari International Border to marry a Kolkata resident with whom her marriage has been fixed in January next year.
Karachi resident Javeria Khanum crossed over into the Indian side from Attari in Amritsar district where she was welcomed by her fiance Sameer Khan and some members of his family to the beats of 'dhol'.
Khanum has been granted a 45-day visa after two previous visa rejections and the Covid pandemic stalled their plans for around five years.
The couple, in a brief interaction with reporters at Attari, said the marriage will be solemnised in January next year.
"I have been granted a 45-day visa. I am very happy to be here. Just on arrival, I am already getting so much love here. In the first week of January the marriage will be solemnised," she said.
She had tried to get a visa on two occasions, but got lucky the third time. "It is a happy ending and a happy beginning," she said, expressing her happiness at being able to travel to India to get married.
&ldquo;Everyone back home was very happy. I can&rsquo;t believe I have got the visa after five years,&rdquo; she added.
Sharing how the couple got in touch, Khan said he expressed interest in marrying Khanum after seeing her photo on his mother&rsquo;s phone.
&ldquo;This started in May 2018. I had come home from Germany where I was studying. I saw her photo on my mother's phone and expressed my interest. I told my mother that I want to get married to Javeria,&rdquo; he said.
Earlier, the visa was rejected twice and in between there was the Covid pandemic, Khan said, adding that he was thankful to the Indian Government for the visa.
"My mother is very happy now that we will be getting married in January next year," he said.
Khan said his friends from his time in Germany &ndash; from Africa, Spain, the United States and other countries &ndash; are likely to attend his wedding.
The couple then left to catch a flight from Amritsar to Kolkata.

Russian President Vladimir Putin will make a one-day trip to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia focused on the Israeli-Hamas war and host the Iranian president in Moscow this week, the Kremlin said Tuesday.
Putin will make working visits to both countries on Wednesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
The talks will focus on bilateral relations, the war between Israel and Hamas and other international issues, Peskov said. Issues related to oil price caps under OPEC+ will also be on the agenda, he added.
Putin's trip was first announced on Monday by his foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov, who didn't give a date for the visits when he spoke to the Russian news outlet Life.
&ldquo;I hope that these will be very useful negotiations, which we consider extremely important,&rdquo; Ushakov was quoted as saying by Life.
Putin will make the visit at a time when Russia wants to advance its role as a power broker in the conflict in the Middle East.
Putin will host Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in the Kremlin on Thursday, Peskov added.
The Russian president visited China in October and recently made several trips to former Soviet nations.
The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March for war crimes, accusing him of personal responsibility for the abductions of children from Ukraine.
Since the warrant was issued, Putin chose not to attend a BRICS summit in South Africa because the country would be obliged to arrest Putin upon arrival as it is a signatory to the international court's treaty.
Neither Saudi Arabia nor the UAE have signed the ICC's founding treaty.
The notice against Putin in March was the first time the global court issued a warrant against a leader of one of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council. The ICC said in a statement that Putin is accused of the war crime of &rdquo;unlawful deportation" of children from occupied areas of Ukraine to Russia.

In the backdrop of the US accusing an Indian citizen of working on a plot to kill a Sikh separatist, reportedly Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, S Jaishankar met an American NSA official for the first time.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday met US Principal Deputy NSA Jon Finer and discussed various bilateral and global issues, in the first publicly announced meeting with an American security official after the US's charges relating to a thwarted plot to kill a Sikh separatist on its soil.
The meeting between Jaishankar and Finer here came days after American prosecutors linked an Indian official to a man charged with conspiring to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
It is understood that the issue figured in the meeting though there is no official confirmation of it.
"Good to meet Principal Deputy NSA of the US Jon Finer this afternoon. Useful exchange of views on the global situation. Discussed taking our bilateral cooperation forward," Jaishankar said on 'X'.
India on November 30 described as a "matter of concern" the US linking the Indian official to a man charged with conspiring to kill Pannun, and asserted that follow up action will be taken based on findings of an inquiry panel investigating the allegations.
India has already constituted a probe team to investigate allegations relating to the foiled plot.
On November 29, US federal prosecutors charged Nikhil Gupta, 52, of working with an Indian government employee in the foiled plot to kill Pannun. The US prosecutors informed a Manhattan court that authorities in the Czech Republic arrested and detained Gupta.
Pannun, a leader of the so-called 'Sikhs for Justice', is wanted by Indian probe agencies on various terror charges.
The Financial Times, citing unnamed sources, first reported last month that US authorities foiled a plot to assassinate Pannun, and issued a warning to the Indian government over concerns it was involved in the plot.
The Washington Post on November 29 said the Biden administration was so concerned after discovering the plot that it sent CIA Director William J Burns and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines to India in August and October respectively to demand investigation and hold those responsible to account.
Last week, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken welcomed as "good and appropriate" India's decision to announce a high-level probe into the allegations.
"The government (of India) announced today that it was conducting an investigation, and that's good and appropriate, and we look forward to seeing the results," he told reporters in Tel Aviv

Mount Marapi in Agam district in West Sumatra province spewed thick columns of ash as high as 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) into the sky in a sudden eruption Sunday and hot ash clouds spread several miles (kilometers). Villages and nearby towns were blanketed by tons of volcanic debris.
About 75 climbers started their way up the nearly 2,900-meter (9,480-foot) mountain on Saturday and became stranded.
Eight of those rescued Sunday were rushed to hospitals with burn wounds and one also had a broken limb, said Hari Agustian, an official at the local Search and Rescue Agency in Padang, the provincial capital.
West Sumatra's Search and Rescue Agency head Abdul Malik said rescuers on Monday morning found 11 bodies of climbers as they searched for those who still missing and rescued three others.
&ldquo;The evacuation process of the bodies and survivors are still ongoing,&rdquo; he said, adding that rescuers are still searching for 22 climbers reportedly still missing.

The Israeli military said on Sunday it had expanded its ground operations to every part of Gaza and ordered more evacuations in the crowded south, followed by heavy bombardment, as it vowed that operations there against Hamas would be &ldquo;no less strength&rdquo; than its earlier offensive in the north.
Palestinians in the Gaza Strip said they were running out of places to go in the sealed-off territory that borders Israel and Egypt. Many of its 2.3 million people are crammed into the south after Israel ordered civilians to leave the north in the early days of the war, which was sparked by the October 7 attack by Hamas and other militants that killed about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, in southern Israel.
The United Nations estimates that 1.8 million Gazans have been displaced. Juliette Toma, director of communications at the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, said nearly 958,000 of them were in 99 UN facilities in the south.

A Health Ministry spokesman asserted that hundreds of people had been killed or wounded since the cease-fire ended. &ldquo;The majority of victims are still under the rubble,&rdquo; Ashraf al-Qidra said.
Meanwhile, fears of a wider conflict intensified. A US warship and multiple commercial ships came under attack Sunday in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said. Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed attacks on two ships they described as being linked to Israel but did not acknowledge targeting a US Navy vessel.
Hopes for another temporary truce in Gaza were fading. A weeklong cease-fire that expired on Friday facilitated the release of dozens of the roughly 240 Gaza-held Israeli and foreign hostages in exchange for Palestinians imprisoned by Israel. But Israel has called its negotiators home, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the war will continue until &ldquo;all its goals&rdquo; are achieved. One is to remove Hamas from power in Gaza.
Senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan said resuming talks with Israel on further exchanges must be tied to a permanent cease-fire.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told NBC's &ldquo;Meet the Press&rdquo; that the US is working "really hard&rdquo; for a resumption of negotiations.
Israel's military widened evacuation orders in and around Khan Younis, telling residents of at least five more areas to leave. Residents said the military dropped leaflets ordering them to move south to the border city of Rafah or to a coastal area in the southwest. &ldquo;Khan Younis city is a dangerous combat zone,&rdquo; the leaflets read.
But Halima Abdel-Rahman, a widow and mother of four, said she won't heed such orders anymore. She fled her home in October to an area outside Khan Younis, where she stays with relatives.
&ldquo;The occupation tells you to go to this area, then they bomb it,&rdquo; she said by phone. "The reality is that no place is safe in Gaza. They kill people in the north. They kill people in the south.&rdquo; The United States, Israel's closest ally, has urged Israel to avoid significant new mass displacement and do more to protect civilians. US Vice President Kamala Harris also told Egypt's president that &ldquo;under no circumstances&rdquo; would the US permit the forced relocation of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank, an ongoing siege of Gaza or the redrawing of its borders.
On the ground in Gaza, there was frustration and mourning. Outside a Gaza City hospital, a dust-covered boy named Saaed Khalid Shehta dropped to his knees beside the bloodied body of his little brother Mohammad, one of several bodies laid out after people said their street was hit by airstrikes. He kissed him.
&ldquo;You bury me with him!&rdquo; the boy cried. A health worker at Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital said more than 15 children were killed.
Israel's military said its fighter jets and helicopters struck targets in the Gaza Strip including &ldquo;tunnel shafts, command centres and weapons storage facilities", while a drone killed five Hamas fighters. Military officials acknowledged &rdquo;extensive aerial attacks in the Khan Younis area".
The bodies of 31 people killed in Israeli bombardment of central Gaza were taken to the Al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah, said Omar al-Darawi, a hospital administrative employee. One woman wept, cradling a child's body on her lap. Another carried the body of a baby. Later, hospital workers reported 11 more dead after another airstrike. The bloodied survivors included a child carried in on a mattress.
Outside a morgue in Khan Younis, resident Samy al-Najeila carried the body of a child. He said his sons had been preparing to evacuate their home, &ldquo;but the occupation didn't give us any time. The three-floor building was destroyed completely, the whole block was totally destroyed&rdquo;. He said six of the bodies were his relatives.
&ldquo;Five people are still under the rubble,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;God help us.&rdquo; During a short trip to the United Arab Emirates as the top American representative at the UN climate conference, Harris said: "Too many innocent Palestinians have been killed. Frankly, the scale of civilian suffering and the images and videos coming from Gaza are devastating.&rdquo; Mark Regev, a senior adviser to Netanyahu, said Israel was making &ldquo;maximum effort&rdquo; to protect civilians. In addition to the leaflets, the military has used phone calls and radio and TV broadcasts to urge Gazans to move from specific areas.
Israel says it targets Hamas operatives and blames civilian casualties on the militants, accusing them of operating in residential neighbourhoods. It claims to have killed thousands of militants, without providing evidence. Israel says at least 78 of its soldiers have been killed in the offensive in northern Gaza.
The renewed hostilities have heightened concerns for the 137 hostages who the Israeli military believes are still being held by Hamas. During the recent truce, 105 hostages were freed, and Israel released 240 Palestinian prisoners. Most of those released by both sides were women and children.
The families of hostages have called for an urgent meeting with Israel's Security Cabinet, saying time is &ldquo;running out to save those still held by Hamas&rdquo;.
Elsewhere in the region, Lebanon's militant Hezbollah group said it struck Israeli positions near the tense Lebanon-Israel border. Eleven people &mdash; eight soldiers and three civilians &mdash; were wounded by Hezbollah fire in the area of Beit Hillel, army radio reported. The military said its artillery struck sources of fire from Lebanon. It also said its fighter jets struck other Hezbollah targets.
And Iraqi militants with the Iran-backed umbrella group the Islamic Resistance in Iraq said they struck the Kharab al-Jir US military base in Syria with rockets. A US military official, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with regulations, said rockets hit Rumalyn Landing Zone in Syria but there were no reports of casualties or damage.

An American warship and multiple commercial ships came under attack on Sunday in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said, potentially marking a major escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Mideast linked to the Israel-Hamas war.
&ldquo;We're aware of reports regarding attacks on the USS Carney and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and will provide information as it becomes available,&rdquo; the Pentagon said.
The Carney is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.
The British military earlier said there had been a suspected drone attack and explosions in the Red Sea, without elaborating.
The Pentagon did not identify where it believed the fire came from. However, Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels have been launching a series of attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, as well as launching drones and missiles targeting Israel as it wages war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters, said the attack began about 10 a.m. in Sanaa, Yemen, and had gone on for as much as five hours. Another US official who similarly spoke on condition of anonymity for the same reason said the Carney had intercepted at least one drone during the attack.
There was no immediate comment from the Houthis. However, a Houthi military spokesman earlier said an &ldquo;important&rdquo; statement would be released shortly.
Global shipping had increasingly been targeted as the Israel-Hamas war threatens to become a wider regional conflict &mdash; even as a truce briefly halted fighting and Hamas exchanged hostages for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
However, the collapse of the truce and the resumption of punishing Israeli airstrikes and its ground offensive there had raised the risk of the seaborne attacks resuming.
Earlier in November, the Houthis seized a vehicle transport ship also linked to Israel in the Red Sea off Yemen. The rebels still hold the vessel near the port city of Hodeida. Missiles also landed near another US warship last week after it assisted a vessel linked to Israel that had briefly been seized by gunmen.
However, the Houthis had not directly targeted the Americans for some time, further raising the stakes in the growing maritime conflict. In 2016, the US launched Tomahawk cruise missiles that destroyed three coastal radar sites in Houthi-controlled territory to retaliate for missiles being fired at US Navy ships at the time.

Mahsa Amini, the 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman who died in police custody in Iran last year, sparking worldwide protests against the country's conservative Islamic theocracy, was awarded the European Union's top human rights prize on Thursday.
The EU award, named for Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov, was created in 1988 to honour individuals or groups who defend human rights and fundamental freedoms. Sakharov, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, died in 1989.

Stating that Tehran has successfully launched a capsule carrying animals into the space, the country's Defence minister said on Wednesday that Iran is inching close to launch a human mission to the space.&nbsp;
A 500 kg capsule is expected to be sent to space carrying Iranian astronauts and if successful the mission will make Iran 4th nation to have a manned space mission.
Quoting Telecommunication minister Isa Zarepourn, IRNA news agency said the capsule carrying animals was placed 130 kilometers into orbit.

However, there was no official confirmation on which animals were sent in the capsule. Iran is hyperfocused on its space mission and has announced many successful launch of the satellites into space earlier.&nbsp;

In Japan's capital Tokyo, a cab driver was arrested for allegedly killing a common pigeon on November 13.&nbsp;
The Tokyo police said in a statement that the 50-year-old, Atsushi Ozawa, used his car to violate wildlife protection laws by driving off through a flock of pigeons and killing one of them on a street.&nbsp;
"The taxi reportedly had no passengers at the time and quickly accelerated right after the traffic light changed to green, striking the pigeons. A passerby, who witnessed the incident called him out, to which Ozawa replied by saying things like, 'Pigeons should get out of the way,' and drove away from the scene," said the Metropolitan Police Department of the city.
The driver has reportedly admitted to the allegations and defended himself saying that roads are for people and pigeons have the option to avoid cars.&nbsp;
The postmortem report of the pigeon revealed the cause of death as a traumatic shock.
Is it illegal to kill pigeon in Japan?
While it's legal to hunt a number of game pigeons in Japan, the feral species of the same are permissible for killing only in some specific cases, such as damage to crops and livestock. Further, the killing is allowed after legal permission by the local authorities. &nbsp;

The Delhi Police are on alert after the US-based Khalistani supporter Gurpatwant Singh Pannun released a video message threatening to "shake the very foundation of Parliament" on December 13 -- the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament.
A senior police officer said security has already been stepped up in and around Parliament. "No one will be allowed to disturb law and order," he said.
"When Parliament is on, we remain alert. We are taking all precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident," the officer said adding that security has also been beefed up in entire Delhi. &nbsp;In the video, which also had a photo of the 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, the chief of the proscribed organisation Sikhs for Justice claimed that the Narendra Modi government tried to kill him and threatened to respond on December 13.
