Late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s art collection fetches $1.5bn

Christie's auction house in New York witnessed an auction like never before. Dozens of works by prominent artists have been sold for a total of over 1.5 USD billion at an auction of the late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen collection.

Christie's, as per The Guardian, said the collected amount was the highest ever collected at a single auction.

Part of Allen's vast collection of paintings and sculpture, also comprising works of 19th century painters Paul Cezanne and Van Gogh were put up for auction.

The proceeds will be donated for philanthropic purposes, in line with late Microsoft co-founder's wish, who passed away in 2018.

Several winning bids reportedly broke previous records and surpassed the sales expectation estimated by Christie's. Many of the works dated over 500 years back, all of which were personally picked by Allen.
