Indian-American Vivek Ramaswamy only behind Donald Trump in Republican polls: report

Indian-American Vivek Ramaswamy’s momentum has grown stronger in his bid to become a US President. The desi entrepreneur only lags behind former President Donald Trump, according to a CNN survey.

The report said Trump sits comfortably at the top with 39% likely GOP votes while Ramaswamy trails at second position with 13%. Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley is also close with 12% potential Republican votes.

As Republican primaries approach, Florida governor Ron DeSantis has faced a surprising fall in popularity. He was once considered to be the primary rival to Trump’s 2024 bid.

"DeSantis' decline stems from a sharp drop-off among moderates, from 26% backing him in July to 6% now. He fell a smaller 8 points among conservatives," the opinion poll said.

The poll also suggests that Ramaswamy's increase is concentrated more among those who are not registered Republicans and among younger likely voters.
