Elon Musk sparks debate over 120-Hour workweek at DOGE, calls weekends a ‘Superpower’

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has stirred controversy by claiming that Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employees work 120 hours a week, calling weekend work a "superpower." His remarks triggered mixed reactions on social media.

Elon Musk’s latest claim about extreme work hours at DOGE has set off a firestorm of debate. The tech billionaire, who was appointed by Donald Trump to lead the department, asserted that bureaucrats lose out because they only work 40 hours a week, whereas his team puts in 120-hour weeks.

  • Musk’s claim: "Very few in the bureaucracy actually work weekends, so it's like the opposing team just leaves the field for two days!"
  • Social media backlash: Critics labeled Musk a "terrible boss," questioning DOGE’s output despite long hours. Some joked, "Are they aliens working 24 hours a day?"
  • Supporters praise Musk, calling him a visionary fighting inefficiency, while others compare his leadership to Napoleon’s strategic genius.

DOGE, created to cut government inefficiency, is set to implement Trump’s small-government vision by July 4, 2026. Musk recently invited applications from “high-IQ small-government revolutionaries” willing to work over 80-hour weeks.
