Militants Launch Drone Assault on Bannu Police Station

Peshawar, Aug 5 (PTI) — On Tuesday, militants launched a drone assault on a police station situated in the Bannu district of northwest Pakistan, according to local police reports. The attackers employed a quadcopter to deliver an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting the Huwaid Police Station in Bannu district, adjacent to North Waziristan, within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The IED landed within the station’s courtyard but did not detonate, as confirmed by officials. Subsequently, a bomb disposal team was promptly dispatched to defuse the device safely, thereby averting any potential casualties or damage.

In the aftermath of the incident, a comprehensive search operation was initiated to locate those responsible for the attack. Security measures were also heightened at nearby checkpoints and other vulnerable sites.

Authorities have observed an uptick in drone-facilitated militant attacks in recent weeks, primarily targeting police and security facilities.
