Armita Geravand: Iranian girl slips into coma after alleged attack over headscarf in Tehran Metro

Armita Geravand, the 16-year-old girl who boarded a Metro train in Iran's capital without a headscarf has slipped into a coma, Times of India said.

This comes after the girl suffered a mysterious injury after entering the Metro following a suspected attack, allegedly by authorities because she was not wearing the hijab.

However, what happened in the few seconds after Armita Geravand entered the train remains in question. While a friend told Iranian state television that she hit her head on the station's platform, the soundless footage aired by the broadcaster from outside of the car was blocked by a bystander. Just seconds later, her limp body is carried off.

Meanwhile, Geravand's mother and father appeared in state media footage saying a blood pressure issue, a fall or perhaps both contributed to their daughter's injury.

Geravand's sudden injury comes almost a year after Mahsa Amini's death. The 22-year-old died in police custody. She was picked up for allegedly not wearing her hijab properly in public.
