A month after a deadly plane crash in Nepal which killed over 70 people, the preliminary crash report has hinted that pilot error may have been the cause of the tragedy.

The preliminary investigation report has reportedly stated that the pilot may have used the wrong levers in the cockpit, which brought engine power to zero.

The twin-engine ATR 72-500 aircraft plummeted into a gorge as it was approaching Pokhara International Airport in the Himalayan foothills.

The investigation committee found that the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder from the crashed Yeti Airlines ATR-72 aircraft, which killed all the 72 passengers on board on January 15 in Nepal, indicated that there was a problem in the engine.
"In ATR-72 aircraft feather means to stay inclined to 90 degrees in spite of being in a certain degree as turned by the pilots. In order to increase the speed, the pilot has to incline the propeller blade using the liver that is in the cockpit. With the propeller blade standing at 90 degrees, the plane would lose aerodynamic movement," the committee said in a report.
The twin-engine ATR 72-500 aircraft plummeted into a gorge as it was approaching Pokhara International Airport in the Himalayan foothills. The crash site is about 1.6 km from the runway at an elevation of about 820 meters (2,700 feet).

Anju was married to co-pilot Deepak Pokharel, who used to fly helicopters of the Nepal Army.

Anju Khatiwada, the co-pilot of the crashed Yeti Airlines' aircraft, joined Nepal's aviation sector after the death of her husband who was killed while flying a small passenger plane of the same domestic airline in 2006.
Nearly 16 years later, the 9N-ANC ATR-72 aircraft - co-piloted by Anju - crashed on the bank of the Seti River near Pokhara's new airport on Sunday, with 72 people on board. Sixty-nine people were confirmed dead in Sunday's crash while three others are still missing. Anju is believed to be among the victims.
Anju was married to co-pilot Deepak Pokharel, who used to fly helicopters of the Nepal Army. After a few years of their marriage, Deepak, who became a pilot of Yeti Airlines, died in a Twin-Otter crash in Jumla district in 2006.
She used the money she received as an insurance claim after her husband's death to undertake an aviation course, according to Sudarsan Bartaula, a spokesperson of Yeti Airlines.
Anju studied a pilot course in the US and joined the aviation industry.

Eyewitnesses who witnessed the moments of horrific plane crash that killed over 60 passengers in Nepal's Pokhara on Sunday shared the horror of seeing the aircraft crashing and catching fire.&nbsp;
A local resident Kalpana Sunar, was washing clothes in the front yard of her house when she saw an aircraft hurtling towards her, before being jolted by a bomb-like explosion caused by the Yeti Airlines plane, the Kathmandu Post reported.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The aircraft was tilted at an unusual angle and moments later, I heard a bomb-like explosion,&rdquo; she was quoted as saying.
&ldquo;Then I saw a plume of black smoke billowing from the Seti River gorge,&rdquo; she added.
One of the plane&rsquo;s wings hit the ground about 12 metres from the house of another local resident Geeta Sunar.
"Had the aircraft fallen just a bit closer to our home, the settlements would have been destroyed,&rdquo; the newspaper quoted her as saying.
The flight took off from Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport at 10:33 am on Sunday and crashed on the bank of the Seti River between the old airport and the new airport in Pokhara, minutes before landing.
At least 68 people have died and four people are still missing, officials said, in Nepal's worst aviation tragedy in over three decades. There were 15 foreigners, including five Indian nationals, onboard the ill-fated flight.

An unverified video doing the rounds on social media shows a passenger recording the view outside his window before showing the interior of the plane. Just then, people start screaming, and a few seconds later, a major fire covers the camera's view.
The Kathmandu-to-Pokhara Yeti Airlines flight crashed on 15 January 2023 while attempting to land.
It was carrying 68 passengers including 15 foreign nationals, as well as four crew members, Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement. The foreigners included five Indians, four Russians, two South Koreans, and one each from Ireland, Australia, Argentina and France.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who rushed to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu after the crash, set up a panel to investigate the accident.
&rdquo;The incident was tragic. The full force of the Nepali army, police has been deployed for rescue," he said.
