The 19-year-old Panghal became only the sixth Indian woman to win a bronze medal at the Worlds with her victory over Sweden's Emma Jonna Denise Malmgren, the two-time European champion.

Young Indian wrestler Antim Panghal's superb campaign at the World Championships culminated with a bronze medal, a performance that also earned the country a 53kg quota for the Paris Olympics.
The 19-year-old Panghal became only the sixth Indian woman to win a bronze medal at the Worlds with her victory over Sweden's Emma Jonna Denise Malmgren, the two-time European champion.
The high-scoring bout (16-6) ended with a technical superiority win for the Indian, who became the first Indian wrestler -- male or female -- to lock a quota for the next year's Games.
The wrestler from Haryana seems to be making a smooth transition from junior to senior circuit, having made an impression in the trials for the Asian Games and World Championships.
Panghal is rising in a category that Vinesh Phogat has made her own on the back of her stupendous show in the last few years.
Phogat, who is a two-time World medallist is recuperating from a knee surgery and it remains to be seen if the 53kg quota remains with Panghal.
As of today, the quota belongs to IOA. Panghal had challenged Phogat's direct entry for the Asian Games, saying she is capable of beating the veteran Indian.
Panghal has certainly made a huge statement by winning the bronze after narrowly missing out on the gold medal bout.
Panghal raced to a 5-0 lead after beginning with a quick push-out point. Malmgren fought with a take-down move and had the Indian in her grip but somehow the Indian wriggled out.
A successful double-leg attack from the Swede reduced the deficit further and another two-pointer meant that Malmgren had grabbed slender 6-5 lead with six straight points.
Just before the end of the first period, Panghal earned a point on counter-attack to make it 6-6. The second period belonged to Panghal as the two-time U20 champion pulled off move after move to consolidate her lead. The Swede resisted hard but the powerful Panghal employed leg-lace to quickly widen the gap and eventually won the bout by technical superiority. With Panghal's bronze medal win, Indian women's campaign closed in the Championships. This is the only medal India has won so far.
The Indians are competing under the UWW flag since national federation WFI is suspended for not conducting elections on time.
Geeta Phogat (2012), Babita Phogat (2012), Pooja Dhanda (2018), Vinesh Phogat (2019, 2022) and Anshu Malik (silver) have won medals at the World Championships for India before.
Early during the day, Indian Greco Roman grappler Sajan Bhanwala lost in the opening round to a technically far superior opponent from South Korea.
The 82kg wrestler was no match for Yang Sejin, losing 1-3 and getting eliminated from the tournament against an opponent ranked one place lower than the Indian at No.18 in the world.
Indians have had a torrid time at the Worlds with only Abhimanyu (70kg) making it to the bronze-medal round in men's free-style. He had lost to Arman Andreasyan of Armenia.
Gurpreet Singh, the 77kg grappler, after getting a direct entry into the pre-quarterfinal lost his bout to world No.1 Levai Zoltan of Hungary in just one minute 12 seconds.
Zoltan, the 2022 World Championships silver medalist in Belgrade last year, achieved a victory by fall.
However, Gurpreet can still make it to the bronze medal round through the repechage route if Zoltan goes all the way to the final.
Mehar Singh, the 130kg greco-roman wrestler, too lost in the qualification round to be eliminated from the competition.
The 27th seeded Indian lost to 28th ranked David Ovasapyan of Armenia on technical points 0-8 in just 39 seconds.&nbsp;

HS Prannoy extracted the last ounce of energy from his reservoir to stun two-time defending champion Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in a thrilling 68-minute quarterfinal to ensure a medal for India in the World Badminton Championship on Friday.
In a nail-biter, Prannoy once again showed his big-match temperament as he fought back from a game down to outwit the world No. 1 one Axelsen 13-21 21-15 21-16 in-front of his home crowd at the Roal Arena.
"O' yes! I finally have a worlds medal," said Prannoy after ensuring his maiden medal.
Prannoy played under immense pressure with the home crowd rooting for the world No. 1 Axelsen.
"I just zoned out, the only thing under my control is me. I was actually not thinking anything else today, just thinking what to do to take the next five points," the world number 9 said.
"A lot of thinking I was doing inside but was not aware what was happening around. I was pretty much in my zone after the second game." The 31-year-old from Kerala, who claimed the Malaysia Masters Super 500 and reached the finals at Australian Open Super 500 this year, thus continued India's dream run at the World Championships as the victory sealed the country's 14th medal in the event.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu won five of them, including a gold in 2019, and Saina Nehwal (silver and bronze) claimed two. Kidambi Srikanth (silver), Lakshya Sen (bronze), B Sai Praneeth (bronze) and Prakash Padukone (bronze) are the other medallists in singles.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had won a bronze in the last edition, while Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa claimed a bronze back in 2011 in the women's doubles.
Earlier, Indian pair of Satwiksairaj and Shetty missed out on a second World Championships medal after suffering a shocking straight-game loss to Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark in the men's doubles quarterfinals.
The world number two Indian pair, which had claimed a maiden bronze in the last edition, couldn't produce their attacking game and went down 18-12 19-21 to the 11th seeded Danish combination, the 2021 bronze winners, in a 48-minute battle.
Prannoy came into the match with a 2-7 head-to-head count but he had troubled the Dane in their last meeting at Japan Open. Both the players seemed a tad nervous as Axelsen led 5-2 after producing two smashes on his rivals forehand.
A desperate Prannoy sprayed into the net twice to allow Axelsen a 2-9 lead as soon he entered the break with a six-point cushion after a clever return to serve.
The Indian tried to slow down the rallies and engaged his rival in a flat drive to make it 9-13. Prannoy tried not to lift against the tall Dane and looked to extend the rallies to draw out errors from Axelsen.
However, the Dane managed to move to 16-11 with a superb cross court smash. Prannoy did all the hard work to stay in the rallies but erred in his finishing.
Soon the Dane grabbed seven game point opportunity and sealed it when the Indian's cross court went wide.
In the second game, Prannoy looked to change the pace of rallies, using more tosses and clears. He defended well but he missed a trick in his finishing as Axelsen led 5-4.
A precise jump smash evened things before Prannoy went into a lead with Axelsen going wide. Axelsen restored parity at 7-7 with Prannoy's wristy net shot going wide. A couple of sloppy returns from Axelsen gave Prannoy two point lead at the break.
A slew of attacking returns gave Prannoy another point. The Indian produced another precise on-the-line smash followed by another down the line return to take the lead to 15-10. Axelsen went out and soon it was 17-10.
The Indian was 18-11 up next with Axelsen going long. He sprayed twice to net as Axelsen send down a whipping straight smash. Prannoy won a 47-shot rally next after Axelsen sprayed into net.
The Indian grabbed six game points and converted in the second attempt after Axelsen went wide.
In the decider, the two played some excruciating rallies to move neck and neck from the start. The Indian played some accurate returns and moved to 7-5.
A straight down the line smash from Prannoy coupled with weak returns from the Axelsen saw the Indian gain a 11-6 lead at the interval.
On resumption, Axelsen tried to play the angled returns but Prannoy managed to stay ahead at 14-9 after winning a video referral.
A cross court smash and a steep straight return helped Axelsen make it 11-14. Prannoy showed good control, producing yet another precise smash on the lines before unleashing a whipping backhand to move to 16-11.
Axelsen sent another wide as Prannoy led 18-14. An error on the net from Axselsen gave Prannoy five natch points. He squandered one before converting the next as Axelsen sent wide again.
Talking about his new shots, Prannoy said: "Before coming for Worlds, we had a week's time, all we do was practice some few shots, learn something new, so there was this shot at 19-19 yesterday, that didnt work but the guts to try something new is a never ending process.
"We are trying to find new shots because we are playing against top 10, top 20 every week. I might come out with a new shot next week."&nbsp;

India's HS Prannoy showed nerves of steel, advancing to his third successive quarterfinals at the World Championships with a fighting three-game win over former champion Loh Kean Yew of Singapore on Thursday.
World number 9 Prannoy, who won the Malaysia Masters and finished runner-up at Australian Open this season, once again displayed his sterling fighting qualities during his 21-18 15-21 21-19 win over the seventh seeded Loh at the Royal Arena.
The 31-year-old from Kerala will face the winner of the match between world number one Viktor Axelsen and Chinese Taipei''s Chou Tien Chen in the last eight stage.
The world number two pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, which had claimed a maiden bronze in the last edition, also stood one step away from another World Championships medal after they beat Indonesia's Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin, ranked 10th, 21-15 19-21 21-9 in the round of 16 match.
The Commonwealth Games champions, who won four titles this season, will meet 11th seeds Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark next. The Indian duo has lost five times to the Danish pair, including the last meeting at the World Tour Finals in 2021.
World number 11 Lakshya Sen, a winner of bronze medal at the 2021 edition, however, couldn't get past Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn, going down 14-21 21-16 13-21 to bow out of the tournament.
Earlier, women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand couldn't sustain the attack and went down 14-21 9-21 in 42 minutes against top seeded Chinese duo of Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan.

After a sedate start, Prannoy slowly found his feet and moved to 6-7 with a cross court return and after his rival hit the net.
The Indian mixed his shots to claw his way back at 8-8. But Loh ensured a three point advantage at the interval.
A deceptive block at the net and a lucky net chord helped Prannoy to draw level at 13-13.
The speedy Singaporean played some extraordinary shots and looked to step up the pace but Prannoy stayed in the fast-paced rallies and pounced on any openings offered by Loh.
As a result, Prannoy moved to 19-16 and grabbed three game points before converting in the second attempt. Loh opened up a 6-3 lead again after the change of sides. The Indian, however, managed to make it 7-8 but Loh again grabbed a 11-8 lead.
After two quick points, Loh hit long and wide and sprayed into the net and Prannoy pushed one at the backline to make it 12-13. He drew parity once Loh went long again.
However, Loh enjoyed a run of points to move to 19-14 in a jiffy and took the match to the decider after Prannoy hit wide twice.
Prannoy turned the heat on from the onset of the third game, collecting a series of winners to go 4-0 up. The Singaporean was too erratic as he trailed 3-9. Soon, the Indian grabbed a seven-point advantage at the break.
After resumption, Loh stepped up the attack and produced some exquisite smashes to reel off five straight points. Prannoy unleashed two powerful smashes before sending one looping at the backline to move to 14-10.
The Singaporean then scripted a sterling fightback, producing a fast, aggressive play to take a 15-14 lead.
A calm Prannoy, however, produced a precise smash to make it 16-16 and then went for a flick serve which his opponent sprayed into the net.
Loh faltered at the net again as Prannoy led 19-17. A cross court on Prannoy's forehand followed by a superb block at the net helped the Singaporean make it 19-all.
However, Prannoy's precise return landed on the line to give him a match point and he sealed it when Loh went to net from the backline. In the men''s doubles match, Satwik and Chirag showed great anticipation and execution to dish out an attacking game. Chirag was superb with his interceptions as he glided through the court and punished any weak returns from their rivals.
The Indian pair had a slow start but Chirag and Satwik soon stepped up, raining down their cross court returns. Soon, Satwik unleashed his explosive smash to grab a three-point lead at the breather.
The Indonesians tried to fight back with a couple of points but couldn''t break the strong defence of the Indians, who quickly extended the lead to 15-10.
Satwik and Chirag kept the pressure and dominated the flat, cross exchanges. A booming backhand gave the Indians six game points. The Indonesians saved one before spraying the serve into the net.
In the second game, Marthin and Carnando managed to lead 2-1 but they couldn't build up the pressure with Satwik unleashing his booming smash to move to 5-5. The Indians took 11-8 lead at the interval again.
The momentum shifted after the break with Marthin and Carnando reeling off six straight points to take a lead with the former showing some good interception. The Indonesians started extending the rallies and soon they were level at 18-18. In the end, the Indonesians produced two winners to roar back into the contest.
In the decider, the Indians dished out a dominating game after being locked at 4-4 at one stage to take a five-point cushion at the break.
Upon resumption, the Indians ran away with the match with the Indonesians committing too many errors.
One such hit into the net gave 12 match points to the Indians and Satwik ended the agony of their rivals with another cross court return.&nbsp;

United World Wrestling relaxed India's deadline to send final entries for World Championships, a relief for grapplers who participated in Asiad trials in July.

United World Wrestling (UWW), the principal governing body in wrestling, has agreed to extend the deadline request by WFI's ad-hoc committee to send grapplers' names for the World Championships. On July 28, the ad-hoc committee had requested that the August 16 deadline be pushed to August 26 for sending India's final entries as they are yet to hold trials before wrestlers are finalised. Ten days later, on August 8, the UWW responded that India can send the strength of their contingent by August 16 and the final names can be sent later. An ad-hoc committee official was quoted by the Hindustan Times as saying, 'This means UWW has agreed to our request in principle. We will send the entries by number soon. The trials can then be conducted by the new WFI dispensation at a suitable date.' The Hindustan Times report further stated that the trials for the World Championships will be held under the supervision of the new Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) office-bearers, who will be elected on August 12. The relaxation comes as a relief for wrestlers who took part in Asian Games trials last month and had asked for a gap before the World Championships trials are conducted so as to have ample time to recover.

Boxers Lovlina Borgohain and Saweety Boora marched into the finals of the Women's World Championships with stellar wins in the semifinals.
While Olympic bronze medallist Lovlina beat Li Qian of China 4-1 to book her maiden appearance in the title round, Saweety reached her second World Championships final dispatching Sue-Emma Greentree of Australia 4-3.

Akshdeep Singh clinched the men's 20km event gold with a stunning national record time. The 22-year-old from Punjab clocked 1 hour 19 minutes and 55 seconds to break the earlier national record of 1:20:16. The qualification cutoff for Worlds &amp; Olympics qualification was 1:20:10.
In the women's event where the cutoff was 1:29:20, national record holder Priyanka Goswami, who won the silver at 2022 Commonwealth Games, won Gold with a time of 1:28:50.

The Tokyo Olympic silver medallist who was competing in the 49 kg category, managed to lift 87 kg in snatch and lifted 113 kg in clean and jerk with a bandaged wrist. This is the second medal at the World Championships for the Manipur-based athlete who had first won gold in 2017.
While the 28-year-old finished behind China's Jiang Huihua, who won the gold with a total effort of 206kg (93kg+113kg), China's Hou Zhihua with a lift of 198kg (89kg+109kg) took home the bronze medal.

As Neeraj Chopra gets set for the World Athletics Championships starting July 15, the Tokyo Olympics gold medallist talked about how no athlete is immune to pressure.
In an interview with the Times of India, Neeraj said that some athletes simply accept that they are under pressure ahead of an event while others just shut themselves out. 'I have never said that I don't feel the pressure when performing on a big stage like the World Championships as it's very natural. But, the real deal is to have that clarity of thoughts and stay calm even during a challenging situation,' added the 24-year-old.
Neeraj however said that he would look to compete at the World Championships with a pressure-free mindset and won't get complacent by the fact that he is an Olympic champion.
The men’s javelin throw at World Championship is scheduled to start with the qualification rounds on July 21, with the final scheduled for July 23.
