Women's Reservation Bill, the landmark legislation was cleared in Rajya Sabha unanimously on Sept 21.
The bill proposes 33 per cent quota to women in the Lower House (LS) and state assemblies.
The Bill was verbally supported by nearly all members of Parliament--cutting across party lines, however some batted for quota within the proposed reservation.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi welcomed the government&rsquo;s decision to introduce the Women Reservation Bill in Parliament but pointed out that the moment should have seen President Droupadi Murmu's presence.
&ldquo;The fact that President Murmu is a woman and represents the tribal community would have been &ldquo;befitting,&rdquo; Rahul said while speaking in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Parliament.
The Congress MP, from Wayanad in Kerala, also pushed for a caste census, criticising the central government for the delay. He said the &lsquo;BJP tends to create a distraction whenever the issue is brought up&rsquo;.
&ldquo;This is a nice, tasteful building but would have liked to see President in this process,&rdquo; the Congress leader said.
Rahul Gandhi also hailed the Women&rsquo;s Reservation Bill as &ldquo;another big step,&rdquo; saying that it is a sequel to Rajiv Gandhi&rsquo;s initiative of reserving seats for women in local polls.

Participating in the debate in Lok Sabha on the women's reservation bill, he also said the President should have been invited when the transfer of proceedings took place from the old to the new Parliament building.
He also pushed for a caste census.

TMC MP Mahua slammed the Centre over the delay in implementation of Women's Reservation Bill.

Speaking in Lok Sabha, TMC leader Mahua Moitra called the women's reservation bill a 'sham' as she slammed the Centre over the delay in its implementation.
She said that the bill should be called 'Women's Reservation Rescheduling Bill' as its implementation could be delayed for years.
Even if passed in this session, the bill will come into effect only after a delimitation exercise is completed and is therefore unlikely to be in force during the next Lok Sabha elections in 2024.&nbsp;
She hailed her party's government in West Bengal led by CM Mamata Banerjee for "sending 37% women MPs to Lok Sabha".
She said TMC not only supports the bill but is a pioneer on the subject. It is the Centre who is supporting the TMC by bringing this bill, she added.
She also hailed the fact that Banerjee is the sole woman chief minister in the country.
