Mahua Moitra calls women's reservation bill 'sham' over delay in implementation

Speaking in Lok Sabha, TMC leader Mahua Moitra called the women's reservation bill a 'sham' as she slammed the Centre over the delay in its implementation.

She said that the bill should be called 'Women's Reservation Rescheduling Bill' as its implementation could be delayed for years.

Even if passed in this session, the bill will come into effect only after a delimitation exercise is completed and is therefore unlikely to be in force during the next Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

She hailed her party's government in West Bengal led by CM Mamata Banerjee for "sending 37% women MPs to Lok Sabha".

She said TMC not only supports the bill but is a pioneer on the subject. It is the Centre who is supporting the TMC by bringing this bill, she added.

She also hailed the fact that Banerjee is the sole woman chief minister in the country.
