Atishi said that Delhi is facing a shortage of 70 million gallons per day (MGD) in production due to a lack of raw water in the Munak canal and Wazirabad reservoir.

The AAP government in Delhi has urged Haryana to release additional water into the Yamuna river on humanitarian grounds as the water shortage worsens in the national capital.
Atishi, who is also Delhi's water minister, said that Delhi is facing a shortage of 70 million gallons per day (MGD) in production due to a lack of raw water in the Munak canal and Wazirabad reservoir.
The normal water production of around 1,002 MGD in Delhi went down to 932 MGD on Friday because of a lack of raw water, she said.
"The Delhi government has appealed to Haryana to release additional water for the people of the city on humanitarian grounds," the minister said and added that issues related to share of Yamuna water can be discussed after heatwave conditions abate.
She said no solution to the water crisis in Delhi could be found during the meeting of the Upper Yamuna River Board on Friday.
Himachal Pradesh is ready to provide the water that was not used by it to Delhi, she claimed.
"I spoke to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on phone and he assured me cooperation," the minister said.
Meanwhile, Congress organised 'matka phod' protest in the national capital over the water crisis.
Carrying earthen pots on their heads and Congress flags, the protesters raised slogans against the Delhi government and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Later, they threw the pots on the ground.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, who also joined the protests, demanded a special session of the assembly to discuss the issue.
He had alleged on Friday that the Delhi government had not taken effective steps to address the water shortage in the city due to which, people had to run after water tankers.
Meanwhile, its INDIA bloc ally, the Congress party, staged a protest in Delhi's &nbsp;Yusuf Sarai against the water crisis in the national capital.&nbsp;

Amid the ongoing heatwave, several parts of the country are dealing with the water crisis. A video that has gone viral showed residents of Maharashtra's Amravati district collecting drinking water by digging pits on the bank of the polluted pond.&nbsp;
Subhash Sawalkar, a resident of Mariampur village, told ANI news agency, "We have to wake up at 4 am and come to the pond, dig a pit to collect water. Our children are getting sick after drinking this water, there is no other source of water here, no water tanker comes here."
Another resident of the same village, Phulkai Belsare shared his ordeal. Belsare said, "We sit here till 10-11 pm to collect water. If the water in the pit is finished, then we have to take dirty water from the pond. We are neither getting water tankers nor are we getting water in the taps."

A Reddit user has claimed that people living in posh gated colonies are bathing in gyms, and relieving themselves in malls due to a lack of round-the-clock water supply.

The water crisis in Bengaluru has become so severe that the residents are reportedly thronging to nearby malls to use washrooms.
A Reddit user claiming to be staying in a flat in Prestige Falcon City has alleged that people living in posh gated colonies are bathing in gyms, and relieving themselves in malls due to a lack of round-the-clock water supply, and few have even vacated their houses.
&ldquo;Most of the tenants have vacated while others have moved to temporary accommodation. You get to smell the stink of unflushed human excreta in toilet bowls from far away. It's not uncommon to see a line of residents going to the nearby forum mall to do their business,&rdquo; read the resident's post.
However, soon after the Reddit post went viral, the Prestige Falcon City authorities rejected the claim in a statement. &nbsp;
&ldquo;The association president has refuted the assertions made about residents from apartments lining up to utilise the washrooms at Forum South Bangalore, dismissing them as entirely unfounded and unsupported. He emphasised that such statements lack credibility and fail to accurately depict the true circumstances of the situation,&rdquo; reads the statement that has been issued by Prestige Falcon City, according to India Today.
According to reports, the bustling metropolitan city, which houses approximately 1.3 crore population, faces a shortfall of over 1,500 MLD (Million Liters Per Day) in its daily water needs, which ranges between 2,600-2,800 MLD.
The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), which supplies drinking water to the tech hub, states that while the situation is manageable in central areas, it's very serious in the city's outskirts.
The current water crisis was necessitated due to a range of interlinking factors that include scarcity of rain, and massive drop in water levels in the Cauvery River.&nbsp;
To deal with the water shortage, the state government plans to use milk tankers from the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to deliver water to Bengaluru. They will also take control of private borewells in and around the city.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that out of 136 taluks in the state, 123 taluks have been declared drought hit and 109 are severely affected. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on March 5 promised that the government would ensure adequate water supply to Bengaluru at any cost.

As Karnataka faces a severe water crisis, a housing society in Bengaluru has introduced a fine of ₹5,000 on residents who misuse drinking water. A special guard will also be posted to monitor the water usage.&nbsp;
Palm Meadows, a residential complex is Bengaluru's popular Whitefield area, informed its residents that it has not received water from the municipal corporation for the past four days. In a notice, the society committee said 'we have been managing with our borewells and run the risk of depletion of groundwater very soon.'
It informed the residents that the water consumption for each unit has been reduced by 20%. If the residents fail to cut water usage by 20%, a fine of ₹5,000 will be imposed on them.&nbsp;

600 million people, or nearly half of India&rsquo;s population, faces extreme water stress.&nbsp;21 major cities, including Delhi, would run out of groundwater by 2030, according to Niti Aayog estimates. India has 16% of the world's population, but only 4% of the world's freshwater resources. India will have only half the water it needs by 2030.&nbsp;India's water crisis is real and severe.Day Zero for a catastrophe is not a century but less than a decade away.&nbsp;We need to act, NOW. The crisis is clear and is staring us in our face, it's time to talk solutions and walk the water talk.Editorji in association with Teri and UNDP is embarking on a mission to pinpoint the water problem and talk solutions.&nbsp; The Big Question: What can be done to address India's water crisis. We will get experts and policy makers to dwell on some of the solutions. Despite the odds, over 30 million new households have been provided with tap water during this period, equal to the number of households provided with taps since Independence.&nbsp;We will list all such efforts, the change they are bringing. Speaking at the Curtain Raiser event of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2022, an annual flagship event organised by TERI, Bharat Lal, Director for the govt's Jal Jeevan Mission said, the water crisis in the country has to be seen from the equity and inclusiveness point of view as well. Adding that the govt's massive is that "no one should be left out", he said, is crucial that we work towards multi-faceted sustainable solutions. Solutions have to be worked out in four key areas, which include, improving water storage capacity, water use efficiency to avoid wastage, treatment of waste water, so that it is not a carrier for diseases, and finally, sensitization of people, which has to be a collaborative effort between govt and people.

Speaking at the Curtain Raiser event of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2022, an annual flagship event organised by TERI, Bharat Lal, Director for the govt's Jal Jeevan Mission said, the water crisis in the country has to be seen from the equity and inclusiveness point of view as well. Adding that the govt's massive is that "no one should be left out", he said, is crucial that we work towards multi-faceted sustainable solutions. Solutions have to be worked out in four key areas, which include, improving water storage capacity, water use efficiency to avoid wastage, treatment of waste water, so that it is not a carrier for diseases, and finally, sensitization of people, which has to be a collaborative effort between govt and people.

The event underscored the need for swift, far-reaching, and multi-sectoral initiatives to address climate change, with experts from civil society, policymakers to discuss sustainable, equitable, and resilient water use.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) requested the Supreme Court for an urgent hearing on its plea against the Haryana government on the water crisis in the national capital.
The board said that Haryana is releasing untreated water to the national capital as it cited "unimaginable level of Amonia" which is not possible to be treated at water plants in the national capital.
The board complained that Haryana was sending untreated water at a time when the city needs more water due to Covid treatment at hospitals and festivals like Ramzan and Navratri.
