Amidst crisis, residents of Amravati district forced to drink water from polluted pond

Amid the ongoing heatwave, several parts of the country are dealing with the water crisis. A video that has gone viral showed residents of Maharashtra's Amravati district collecting drinking water by digging pits on the bank of the polluted pond.

Subhash Sawalkar, a resident of Mariampur village, told ANI news agency, "We have to wake up at 4 am and come to the pond, dig a pit to collect water. Our children are getting sick after drinking this water, there is no other source of water here, no water tanker comes here."

Another resident of the same village, Phulkai Belsare shared his ordeal. Belsare said, "We sit here till 10-11 pm to collect water. If the water in the pit is finished, then we have to take dirty water from the pond. We are neither getting water tankers nor are we getting water in the taps."
