Bengaluru water crisis: housing society imposes Rs 5,000 fine for wastage

As Karnataka faces a severe water crisis, a housing society in Bengaluru has introduced a fine of ₹5,000 on residents who misuse drinking water. A special guard will also be posted to monitor the water usage.

Palm Meadows, a residential complex is Bengaluru's popular Whitefield area, informed its residents that it has not received water from the municipal corporation for the past four days. In a notice, the society committee said 'we have been managing with our borewells and run the risk of depletion of groundwater very soon.'

It informed the residents that the water consumption for each unit has been reduced by 20%. If the residents fail to cut water usage by 20%, a fine of ₹5,000 will be imposed on them.

Other housing societies in Bengaluru have also issued instructions to their residents to cut down water consumption.
