Riding on Musheer Khan's brilliant hundred, India thrashed Ireland by 201 runs in their second match of the Under-19 World Cup.

Musheer Khan gave ample display of his immense talent with a superb hundred as India steam-rolled minnows Ireland by a whopping 201 runs to virtually qualify for the Super Six round of the ICC U-19 World Cup here on Thursday.
Courtesy Musheer's blitzkrieg -- 118 off 106 balls, India posted an imposing 301 for 7 against Ireland, which in any case, would have been an uphill challenge to surpass.
In the end, Ireland managed a paltry 100 in 29.4 overs with medium pacer Naman Tiwari (4/53 in 10 overs) and left-arm spinner Saumy Kumar Pandey (3/21 in 9 overs) doing the bulk of the damage. Seven Irish batters failed to reach double figures.
The Indian team was just too good for the Irish and the gulf in standard was evident across all departments.

"We both have same style of play. I am very happy but not satisfied as I need to play much better in the coming games. In the last match, I was in a bit of rush but today I was patient and waited for the loose deliveries. The six I hit over mid-wicket off the fast bowler was special. All thanks to Almighty Allah," Musheer said after the match.
He took only 34 balls to race to 100 from 50, having scored the first 50 runs off 66 balls. Along with skipper Uday Saharan (75 off 84 balls), Musheer added 156 as the young Indian batters gave a good account of themselves, albeit against a weaker bowling attack.
In the end, Sachin Dhas, perhaps the most exciting talent in the U-19 set-up, smashed 21 off 9 balls to take India past 300-run mark, which is the highest score in an U-19 international at this ground.
India scored 119 runs in the last 10 overs.
However, the Indian innings was about Musheer's brilliant game awareness as he took his time before unleashing a brutal assault on the Irish bowlers.
Very strong on the on-side, all his maximums came in the region between square leg, deep mid-wicket and long-on.
He treated opposition's best pacer Oliver Riley (3/55) with disdain, hitting him for two sixes.
Saharan, who played the second fiddle to Adarsh Singh in the opening game, was once again brilliant as an anchor, rotating the strike well and letting Musheer play his natural attacking game.

India entered the edition as mediocres ended up winning their first ever Under-19 World Cup Trophy. The Mohammad Kaif led team defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in their maiden final.
In the last match of the tournament in Colombo, India chased 179 with 56 balls remaining. Yuvraj Singh who later emerged as a Indian cricket star was a part of this team.
2008
Virat Kohli who rose to the zenith of Indian cricket picked up the 2nd Under-19 World Cup for the country. The Kohli led team which had the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Manish Pandey defeated South Africa.
The Indian team was bowled out for 159, however the bowlers presented a match winning performance restricting Proteas to 103-8 in a match interrupted game in Kuala Lumpur.
2012
It was a record equalling third title for the Indian colts. Unmukt Chand led India brought down the defending champions and 3 time winners Australians by 6 wickets in Queensland. Unmukt Chand’s unbeaten 100 helped India win while chasing a 226 run target. Hanuma Vihari was a part of this WC winning squad.
2018
Captain Prithvi Shaw scripted history for India as his team picked up india’s record 4th title in New Zealand. The Indian team was bowled out for 159, however, the bowlers presented a match-winning performance restricting the&nbsp;Proteas to 103-8 in a rain-interrupted game in Kuala Lumpur.

It was a record-equalling third title for the Indian colts. Unmukt Chand led India brought down the defending champions and 3-time winners Australians by 6 wickets in Queensland. Unmukt Chand&rsquo;s unbeaten 100 helped India win while chasing a 226 run target. Hanuma Vihari was a part of this Under 19 WC-winning squad.
2018
Captain Prithvi Shaw scripted history for India as his team picked up India's record 4th title in New Zealand. India who were coached by Rahul Dravid defeated Australia once again by 8 wickets to bring home the coveted title. Assisting Shaw throughout the tournament was Shubhman Gill who has since made his name in the senior circuit.&nbsp;

Laxman, who traveled with the team, also mentioned how the covid outbreak in the middle of the tournament-tested the team but the boys showed a lot of resilience and a positive attitude to overcome all the problems. Laxman, who heads the National Cricket Academy, lauded the team for winning the tournament despite not getting a chance to play any domestic tournaments.
Due to the pandemic, all domestic tournaments were canceled in the last two years and this young side only got the chance to play Asia Cup for match practice.
