Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT-I) is linked to a significantly reduced risk of depression in patients with insomnia, new research shows.

According to a study published in the JAMA Psychiatry, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT-I) may help prevent major depression among older adults with insomnia.&nbsp;

As per researchers, insomnia contributes to a two-fold greater risk for major depression in older adults. CBT-I is a first-line treatment that is being used as an alternative to sleeping pills and aims to introduce positive thoughts around sleep.&nbsp;
For the study, researchers examined 291 adults aged 60 years and older for a period of three years. During the research, participants received CBT-I for eight weeks with the help of professional trainers.
The findings suggested that CBT-I can reduce the likelihood of developing depression by over 50%.
