Research suggests late night screen time and irregular sleeping pattern may lead to social jet lag in teens.&nbsp;

A new study published in the Journal of Affective Disorders has found that teenagers with emotional and psychological problems may be suffering from 'social jet lag.'
Teens spend a lot of time scrolling on social media which leads to an incomplete sleep schedule. According to experts, late-night screen time may cause social jet lag, which then greatly increases the risk of behavioural problems among teens.
For the study, researchers gathered data from more than 4,000 students. Survey participants reported their screen use before sleep, their sleep schedule and any emotional problems they might be experiencing.
Researchers found that teenagers who use phones, tablets and laptops before sleep tend to experience greater social jet lag which may higher the risk of emotional or psychological problems.
The study highlights the importance of encouraging healthy screen habits among adolescents and being mindful of their natural sleep patterns to support their mental health.

As per a new study teenagers who spend more amount of time gazing at screens suffer from back pain and other illnesses.

Published in the journal Healthcare, Brazilian researchers found that teenagers who spend more than three hours a day looking at the screens suffer from back pain and other posture issues.
The study focused on thoracic spine pain (TSP) and during the research, experts surveyed 14- to 18-year-old male and female students.
The findings suggested that girls reported TSP more than boys. Out of 1,628 participants, around 38.4 per cent suffered from back pain.&nbsp;

According to a new study, teenagers who are awake till late at night have an increased risk of behavioural problems and delayed brain development as they grow older.&nbsp;
The study was published in The Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry where researchers have found out that there&rsquo;s a grave relation between sleeping late at night and development of white matter in brain. The study was done on 209 teenagers between 12 and 19 years.&nbsp;
Results showed a predominant choice of staying late at night in most 17-19 year olds. Hence, it was stated that teenagers who go to sleep very late at night go through a significant lack of sleep, leading to higher risk of emotional and behavioural problems than their early bird counterparts.&nbsp;

According to new research issued in the Clinical Psychological Science journal, teens who spend moderate time online are better at coping with stress compared to those who completely ignore digital technology.

For the study, researchers examined 200 adolescents aged 13-17 living in low socioeconomic settings. All the participants were given iPhones to use and were asked to report their technology usage, stresses and moods for a week. The information was then utilised to evaluate the emotional responses of teenagers.
The findings of the research revealed that teenagers who spent a moderate amount of time online after a stressful experience reported lower peaks in negative feelings, than those who avoided digital technology altogether or spent several hours online. As per researchers, the online environment is beneficial for teenagers in low-income situations as it acts as a tool to obtain knowledge and assistance.
