Sleeping late at night affects brain development in teenagers according to a study

According to a new study, teenagers who are awake till late at night have an increased risk of behavioural problems and delayed brain development as they grow older.

The study was published in The Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry where researchers have found out that there’s a grave relation between sleeping late at night and development of white matter in brain. The study was done on 209 teenagers between 12 and 19 years.

Results showed a predominant choice of staying late at night in most 17-19 year olds. Hence, it was stated that teenagers who go to sleep very late at night go through a significant lack of sleep, leading to higher risk of emotional and behavioural problems than their early bird counterparts.
