Congress leader Rahul Gandhi went skiing in Gulmarg in north Kashmir on Wednesday as he began a two-day personal visit to the valley.
Gandhi, who completed his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar two weeks ago, was once again in his now-trademark T-shirt as he stopped for a brief period in Tangmarg town while on his way to Gulmarg skiing resort, 52 km from Srinagar.
The former Congress president refused to take questions from the media. "Namaskar" was all he said when he was asked to comment.
At Gulmarg, Gandhi took a ride on the famous Gondola Cable car and went to Affarwat for skiing.
Before heading downhill, the Congress leader posed for selfies with an excited bunch of tourists, giving a tough time to his security personnel.
Gandhi was accompanied by police personnel on skiis as he glided down the majestic mountains of Gulmarg.
"We are lucky to have met Shri Rahul Gandhi," said one the tourists who met the Congress leader. Another tourist said Gandhi deserved to enjoy his holiday "after undertaking the monumental Bharat Jodo Yatra".
Pradesh Congress Committee sources said Gandhi is on a personal visit and is likely to attend a private function in the valley. The sources did not divulge the details of his programme.

On cam: massive avalanche hits popular ski resort in Gulmarg, several skiers feared trapped  

The bodies of the two Polish nationals have been recovered and moved to the hospital for medico-legal procedures.

Two Polish tourists died in a massive avalanche that hit the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir's ski resort Gulmarg on Wednesday, police said.
Skiers, both foreigners and locals, were at the slopes when the avalanche hit. At least 19 foreigners have so far been rescued successfully, police said.
The bodies of the two Polish nationals have been recovered and moved to the hospital for medico-legal procedures.
Rescue operations are still in progress in the tourist town, in Baramulla district, with police teams on the job.
The number of those missing is not known.
"Avalanche hit the Afarwat peak #HapathKhud at famous ski resort in #Gulmarg. #Rescue operation has been launched by #Baramulla Police along with other agencies. Reports of some skiers being trapped are being corroborated. More details shall follow," a spokesperson of the Baramulla district police said on Twitter soon after the incident. Videos of the avalanche, showing people running for their lives, circulated widely on social media.&nbsp;

Arif Khan finished ninth, 10th and twice finished 11th in four slalom events over the past week at the Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates in Dubai. The four slalom events in Dubai were the only four competitions Mohammad Arif Khan has taken part in during the qualification period.
The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be held from February 4 to 20. The men&rsquo;s slalom event will be held on February 16.
Khan, who has represented India in more than 100 ski events held across the world, had been undergoing ski training in Europe for the most part of this year. He is set to become the only skier to represent India in Winter Olympics this year.
