The digital era has given us a number of things to appreciate and one amongst them are smart speakers. Recently, a research from Ofcom revealed that these smart devices can help users feel less lonely.&nbsp;
Other than this, they also help differently-abled people feel more independent. In the survey, 100 smart speaker owners and 15 non-owners were involved.&nbsp;
In the findings, it was revealed that a large number of survey participants reported that the speakers acted as a companion with whom they can talk.&nbsp;
The organisation also found that during the pandemic, the number of ownership of smart speakers in UK households doubled from 22 per cent in 2020 to 39 per cent in 2022.&nbsp;

Apple has launched a smaller version of the HomePod smart speakers, the HomePod mini. It features the same mesh fabric exterior along with a small display on top to show the Siri waveform and volume controls, but the new model has more of a short, spherical shape.
It gets an Apple S5 chip that allows for &ldquo;computational audio&rdquo; processing as well as U1 chips for Ultra Wideband support. The HomePod Mini features a full-range dynamic driver, two passive radiators, and an &ldquo;acoustic waveguide&rdquo; on the bottom.
Multiple HomePod mini speakers can play music in sync and create stereo pairing, while the new &lsquo;Intercom&rsquo; feature allows users to communicate throughout the house.
Apple has also promised support for third-party music services, including Amazon Music. The HomePod Mini costs ₹9,900 and will go on sale from November 16.

Digital marketing insights firm Coywolf saw an increased activity from Apple's web crawler Applebot in their website logs recently, giving rise to such speculation. Other indicators include the fact that in iOS 14, Spotlight Search entirely bypasses Google results and the iPhone maker had reportedly been listing more job announcements for search engineers. Tech news website MacRumors notes that this could instead be Apple&rsquo;s efforts to improve Siri and Spotlight search results.
