A dejected Shyam Rangeela lambasted the Election Commission after his nomination papers were rejected, quashing his hopes of giving a tough fight to Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the Varanasi seat.&nbsp;
&ldquo;The Election Commission has made elections in Varanasi a game. Today, my nomination was rejected. If you were to not clear it, why did you accept it? We submitted all documents," he said in a video posted on X on Wednesday 15 evening.
He hurled a series of allegations, claiming that he was barred from submitting his papers on time and that the District Magistrate's office denied assistance during the filing process.&nbsp;

"The DM told me that there was some issue with my documents and that I didn&rsquo;t take the oath&hellip; They didn&rsquo;t let the lawyers go in with me and called me alone. Now, the reason they gave is that I didn&rsquo;t take an oath and that it was on me to take an oath. I said you didn&rsquo;t ask me to, and they responded it isn&rsquo;t their work. The second thing is that sir was saying that on May 14, I submitted the form at 2.58 pm, and that if there was some issue with it, I would have had time till 3 pm. I have been trying here since May 10 with several others&hellip; My friend was beaten up. Modiji may act and cry, but I don&rsquo;t want to cry here.&rdquo;
His video on X invited a prompt response from the Varanasi District Magistrate's official account, where Magistrate S Rajalingam justified the rejection, citing deficiencies in Shyam's affidavit and failure to comply with procedural formalities.&nbsp;
"Your nomination paper was scrutinised in your presence and you were informed about the deficiencies. Your nomination paper has been cancelled because the affidavit submitted by you was incomplete and you did not take the oath/affirmation, a copy of the order of which has also been made available to you," he wrote on X.

Earlier, the 29-year-old comedian, who shot to fame by mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claimed that he was not being allowed to file his papers. According to the Election Commission, Shyam filed his nomination under his official name, Shyam Sunder.
"This is our victory in democracy because once they started accepting nominations, around 14 people filed their papers. Today, even after 3 pm, the officials are still accepting. There will be a 200% increase in filing nominations. If 14 people file nominations till now, the number will increase to 30. It's all because of you and social media people. You all amplified my plea and it was heard by the people in the office."
"I was running pillar to post from morning, and finally, they accepted it. I want to thank the Election Commission of India in Delhi, which heard our plea. They must have talked to them here. I want to express my gratitude to everyone. Today, we emerged victorious. And we won't wait till June 4. The battles we fought today, because of which we have achieved victory."

He shot to fame by mimicking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but Shyam Rangeela now wants to be pitted against the tallest incumbent BJP leader. The comedian, who hails from Rajasthan, is seeking to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi. However, days after making this announcement, Rangeela has alleged that the polling officers are not accepting his nomination papers.&nbsp;
"I have all the necessary documents, yet they are not accepting my nomination. Had they rejected my nomination, I wouldn't have objected to it. But, they are not even accepting my papers," he told the media while standing outside the election commission office in the Uttar Pradesh district.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Rangeela expressed his frustration as it was the second time that he was unable to file his nomination. He tried calling the returning officer, but the comedian alleged that his call was cut midway.&nbsp;

The 29-year-old from Rajasthan was once a diehard fan of Modi, on May 1 announced that he will reach Varanasi to file his nomination papers.&nbsp;
In a more than two-minute video clip shared on his official X handle, Rangeela expressed his intentions to contest against the prime minister.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I, Shyam Rangeela, the comedian, have come to do my &lsquo;Mann ki baat&rsquo; with you. There&rsquo;s a question in all of your minds: Is what you hear in the news about Shyam Rangeela contesting the election from Varanasi true? Is this a joke? Let me tell you, this is not a joke&hellip;I am contesting the election from Varanasi against PM Modi&hellip;Anybody can contest elections in this democracy, and I&rsquo;m doing this for a reason,&rdquo; he said.
Talking about the recent unopposed BJP win in the Surat constituency and the row over Chandigarh mayoral polls, Rangeela said, &ldquo;I feel like it shouldn&rsquo;t be that there is no other candidate to vote for. Even if one person wants to vote against a candidate, he or she has that right. Someone&rsquo;s name should be on the EVM.&rdquo;
&ldquo;&hellip;But I am scared that people would have only one candidate to vote for in Varanasi. So I have decided to contest the election from there&hellip;I hope my voice will reach there,&rdquo; he added.
&ldquo;The people of Varanasi have given me a lot of love. I&rsquo;m elated by the response I got after I announced my candidacy. I&rsquo;m coming to Varanasi soon&hellip;I&rsquo;m coming to give Modi an answer in his own language,&rdquo; Rangeela said.
Taking potshots at PM Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party over the electoral bonds scheme, Rangeela said, &ldquo;I am excited to contest the election, but this is my first time. So, I would need your support. I don&rsquo;t have electoral bonds and have not taken from anyone. So, I would need some wealth, too.&rdquo;

"On Monday, they pretended to help me. They said they would help me in getting the form, but no one actually helped. By evening, they stopped giving the form. And now when I am asking them, they are not responding. They are saying that there is no entry before 12 pm. Modi ji is also coming to file his nomination papers."
"Yesterday, Congress' Ajay Rai came. The officers let him through, and he completed all the procedures in 20 minutes. It seems two types of procedures are being followed. One for those whose nomination is expected, and for others, who will be made to stand in queue and deny their nomination papers. Yesterday, the situation was even worse. They didn't allow any cameras, otherwise, I would have shown how worse the situation is."

Rangeela marked his entry into politics by joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2022. However, he decided to work independently, saying that, 'he is his own master'.
Varanasi will go to polls in the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1. The result of the Lok Sabha polls will be declared on June 4.&nbsp;
